Hate to say it but it looks really like no SC5509 in the US. Usually components show up on Onkyos website first and with some weeks delay the sister model from Integra is available... Now you can already purchase the Integra DHC-80.3 but no sign from the Onkyo

If the 5509 will not be offered for sale in the US I wonder why Onkyo would do that. If the 5509 will in fact not be available in the US I wonder if it is a move to push those looking for the 5509 to the 80.3. Maybe Onkyo is trying to generate more business for Integra and its dealers. I would also guess any dealers with 5508s still in stock will easily get MSRP if this is true. Onkyo will be losing any future sales from me if I have to pay close to retail from an Integra dealer. Nothing against Integra dealers but it is nice to have the option of either the Integra or the Onkyo prepro. Plus I prefer the looks of the Onkyo so that would be another reason I would pass on the Integra.

There seems to be some type of BS with the release of the Onkyo prepros lately. If I recall when the 5508 was being released there was talk it would not have Audyssey Pro capablity. I might be mistaken on that one but again it looks like another soap opera in the works.

Kinda makes sense, the integra 80.3 was first mentioned in the press release I read with an msrp of $2,300. The 5509 disappears and now the 80.3 has an msrp of $2,600.

It could be a couple of weeks before you can get your hands on one. If then.

FWIW, at CEDIA, there was a DHC-80.3 on the rack at the Integra display but no prepro at all at the Onkyo display.

I was considering upgrading my 5507 to a 5509.
Under no circumstances would I buy the Integra.
I cannot stand the aesthetics and I will not get stuffed into the dealer network.

I like the 5507 pre-pro but it has it's idiosyncrasies.
Turn on THX sub the sound is radically altered.
The 5508 has HDMI quality problems, so I would not buy that either.

Every day, there are fewer boutique dealers. The ones left, want to sell very high priced products.

None of this bothers me, because, when Onkyo start reading the sales spreadsheets, I predict a change in course later this year

Rich,

My problem is I want Audyssey and there is not much to choose from. I do not want an Integra or Marantz. What is the HDMI problem with the 5508?

What makes you think there is really any differences between the Onkyo and Integra??

I'm curious - what do you mean by "stuffed into the dealer network"?

I can almost see why Onkyo/Integra would only sell the pre/pro under the Integra name: I think people who go the custom install route would be much more likely to have seperates than AVR's. So why not steer your customers to the custom install product line in the first place?

Also, I bet the sales spreadsheets issue won't amount to much....I bet Onkyo/Integra sells 10 AVRS (maybe more) for every pre/pro sold.

Having said that, I hope they do release the Onkyo version so people who hate the Integra looks will be happy. I personally like the Integra version; I don't like controls under hidden panels & doors.

I do not care for the asthetics of the Integra at all. Also, why is Onkyo selling its receiver line in the US if it is not going to offer the 5509? That would make me never buy another Onkyo product.

Kal...the 5509 is an Onkyo Pro unit ... not an Onkyo. Onkyo Pro (it is another line) is sold almost exclusively to musical instrument/sound reinforcement dealers. That's why OPro was not at Cedia.

Hmm, I was really looking foward to getting the 5509. I will start looking at the Integra 80.3 but it will be highly unlikely I shell out over 2K for a preprocessor.

At the same time... I still don't think it will be a day & night difference going from Denon 4308CI to the Integra 80.3. I believe the most benefit would have been going to MultEQ XT32.

Alan,

I see that the 5508 is on the Onkyo USA site as well as Onkyo Pro site. If I recall the 885 and the 886 were only shown on the Pro site when they were being sold.

http://www.onkyousa.com/prod_class.c...s=Preamplifier

http://www.onkyopro.com/

Below is a link to the 5509 on the Onkyo/UK (consumer products) site which is not a Pro site. This indicates that as of now in the UK the 5509 is a consumer product. So it appears at this time that the 5509 is not available on the Onkyo USA or the Onkyo Pro site.

I talked to a dealer that sold both Integra and Onkyo. He told me that Onkyo required them to order a certain number of Integra pieces for to PUSH them.
Thus they are stuffed into the channel.

So what if they sell AVR's 10 to 1, are they trying to sell product or build technical monuments?

Basically, the 5509 is the same innards stuffed into a better box (IMHO).

I'm not sure if anyone here has bought their 5508 from TUC. But do a search on TUC and it will show some interesting information. In my opinion there are many other ways to spend your A/V money like better speakers, room treatments, music and much more.

I like the looks of the 5509. From the youtube video it looks like the sheet metal cover is in different pieces and appears to be a bit beefier than my 886.

LOL That's Mark from Onkyo UK great guy what he does not know about THX is not worth knowing

I don't understand why Onkyo US are not shipping SC5509? and to have to pay extra for the 80.3 is a bit of a cheek

Onkyo UK is ready to start shipping To dealers in first two weeks in October
I had a play with Audyessy MultiEQ XT and wow what that done to the sound on a £1,000 receiver so can not wait to see how XT32 works out, what is it 10,000 points of adjustment per channel

Are you sure the integra was ever intended for release in your country. We don't get Integra in the UK...

Thanks, seems like Integra covers some of Europe, but not all... I did not realise they did sell in that many EU countries, thanks.
