Thought I saw it at Club Onkyo.

You don't want the 5507, you want a newer model with XT32.

Subscribed.

As soon as anyone knows, please post whether or not the 5509 will have Audyssey PRO capability.

I like the look of the Onkyo 5509 better than the Integra 80.3, so I'd like to stick with Onkyo. My present pre/pro is the Onkyo 885, so I'm looking for a nice upgrade in sound quality and functionality over the 885.

AFAIK the 885 did not have the clicking issue (at least mine did not). Rumor has it that the 80.3 and 5509 still exhibit it. Might be a deal breaker.

I had the 885 and now have the 886. Never had any clicking issues with either one with audio format changes (digtal to analog).

The Integra DHC-80.3 does not click loudly or often but it does have other issues. Take a look at my posting in the DHC-80.3 thread.

I suppose it's not 100% definite until it actually happens. But I've been told that it should be implemented some time next month.

That is unusual, but considering it has started landing in Europe, it is a real possibility.

I'm beginning to wonder if Onkyo is just waiting for dealer stock of US 5508's to go down before releasing the 5509 here...?

I'm willing to wait.

They should just discount the remaining 5508's and be done with it IMO. There is currently a much larger potential market here for the 5509 than last years stuff. Onkyo, sh*t or get off the pot.

You could always just get it's twin, the Integra DHC-80.3 which is already here.

I'm not sure where you've got that impression from, there isn't much difference between them.

IMO most people will buy a 5509 instead of a 5508 when the cost is the same. Why buy last year's model especially when it has a known problem. Probably why there are 5508's still on the shelves.

If the cost is the same, then yes I agree - but that depends on where you are in the world. The 5509 is a brand new product, but isn't really much of an update on the 5508, it could have exactly the same known problem as the 5508, or have numerous problems that the 5508 didn't.

Yes: 5509 + 5009 + 3009.
Will probably return the 5009 because of the 5509.
Got several Emotiva power amps.

I am surprised that no one here has pointed out the fact that the Onkyo SC-5509 uses a brand new video processor, HQV Vida VDH1900, which when first announced and shown at Cedia two years ago, had some A/V pundits call it the best video processor for watching low-resolution videos from the internet, as well as doing top-notch de-interlacing and upscaling like other current top-of-the-line video processors.
I am a current owner of an Onkyo 886 A/V processor and LOVE IT; I use it daily an average of 10~12 hours for the past 2 1/2 years and it has worked flawlessly; Based on my experience i plan on staying with Onkyo when it comes time for me to get a new A/V processor.
One big improvement, i think, would be if Audyssey XT32 would allow the user to calibrate the room separately for music and video, and make these different Audyssey calibration settings easily available on the remote control without forcing the user to dig through layers of menu options.

I'm guessing that no one pointed it out because it was pretty obvious from the spec that the 5509 has newer video processing over the 5508. While the new HQV processor (along with the Marvell chip for 4k upscaling) may have it's benefits, it's hardly a much of an upgrade over the 5508. Although I did notice that picture processing for internet streaming is one of the new features - but I guess (like anything) there is only so much that can be done.

When I was researching the 5508 I wondered what the difference was with the 5509 and all I could see was the ability to up sample to 4k, something I didn't need. I guess the HQV/Marvell processors are two more differences.

Now that I've had the 5509 for a few weeks or so, I can say that there are some small but interesting new features/settings, but not really anything major (for most people) to justify the price difference between a clearance 5508 and a new 5509. If I didn't have contacts in the industry that allowed me to get the 5509 for a really good price, I would have stuck with the 5508.

I decided to go with Integra DHC-80.3, because of 4k and HQV. Not sure if I'll be using HQV but more for 4k. Although 4k won't be used right now... but I can see it within 1-2 years from now...

But in 1-2 years there will be newer/better chips for upscaling to 4k.
