Can't wait until this is available in USA. These guys show them to be in-stock, but only ship within the UK.

It will be interesting to see what features that the 5509 will have that the 5508 does not. Its funny that the avland link has a picture of the 1009. In the past I have found the specs they use on their site to not be very accurate.

According to this writer who covered the CAF audio show (link below), the upcoming Integra 80.3 will have new DACS.

AVLAND also indicates a change in DACs: "Burr-Brown 192kHz/24bit (PCM1690 and PCM1789) DACs for all channels." However, unless Onkyo/Integra is backtracking from the 32 bit two channel PCM1795 DACs in the SC5508/80.2, the 24 bit eight channel PCM1690 and 24 bit two channel PCM1789 seem doubtful as replacements. More likely, those are just the DACs in the NR1009, as AVLAND has posted a NR1009 pic on its SC5509 page.

And like the Announcement for the 3009/5009, AV Land is using Pictures of the TX-NR1009. That Blog Post seems to indicate that the 3009/5009/5509 are going to implement the HQV Vida/Marvell Qdeo combo that is used in the 809/1009 and makes sense.

As the HDMI Spec is staying the same and we are a ways away from wholesale adoption of 4K TV's, aside from the new Industrial Design and DTS NEO, there does not appear to be much of a clarion call to dump a x08 for the x09. At least personally.

I read that the SC5508 has an internal cable connector problem. I'm hoping it's fixed in the SC5509.

Hello,
A certain batch of 5508's has this issue or is likely to be affected in the future, but by no means the entire Production. It appears 5508's Built in October and November of 2010 comprise the bulk of affected Models.

While AVSForum by no means represents every 5508 Owner, the actual number of 5508 Owners affected here is a fairly small number.

Likewise. Thought about picking up a 5508 but this really concerns me. I do not think any of the remaining units will be discounted either.

Hello,
You could get the Serial Number from the Dealer and call Onkyo and find out if the S/N is among the affected Models. I would also read the 5508 Thread as there are very few people on the Thread who have had the Serial Cable issue.

It really is unfortunate as this Model has such an incredible Feature Set. Especially Audyssey MultEQ XT32/SubEQ HT.

I'm waiting for the SC5509 which should be out in a couple of months. Hopefully, without hardware problems...

Quote AV-Land: "The Onkyo PR-SC5509 replaces the PR-SC5508 and is Onkyo's high end home cinema THX Ultra2 Plus certified pre-amplifier, with the ability to process up to 11.2 channels."

This wouldn't mean 11.2 channels simultaneausly, or does it? I presume, like the 5508, the 5509 lets you choose any 2 out of 3 (Wide/Height/Surround Back). Correct?

Want a 11.2 pre-pro, with XLR pre-outs, without amps. Rather not want to get the Denon 4311.

BTW, I read the Onkyo 1009 review on AreaDVD in German. The reviewer used a 9.2 Surround system (no wides) with Teufel speakers. He liked the THX + DTS Neo:X setting best. More subtle than DSX.

Here's the link for the Onkyo review, for those who are confident enough to try some German (but you can always Google translate)

I never had any relay clicking (except turn on) with the Onks 905 (sold), 875 (sold), 876 (have) and 5007 (have). There must be something different in my setup to yours to make it happen...

Hello to all,

I asked this same question on another forum and nobody answered, so maybe here I'd get some inputs... Thanks in advance:

Maybe a little off topic here, but I wanted to ask your opinion. I'm going to upgrade from a TX-NR906 that I've bought some years ago and I'm still undecided on which one to get: TX-NR5009 or PR-SC5509? The reason is that I've recently purchased some emotiva gear (2 UPA-1's and 1 UPA-7) to drive my KEF's speakers. I have XQ30's (Bought on A4Less sadly, as they came all banged up and broken), XQ50c, XQ20's and the 3005's as heights.

I know that there are some differences between them (assignable 12v triggers, XLR inputs/outputs, etc), but Onkyo's amplification has never let me down, wouldn't hurt to have it as backup don't you think? Although I don't think that it tops the UPA's but maybe that has changed over the past years?

What would you suggest?

Thanks to all for your help

This looks to be my next purchase also now that the Emotiva XMC-1 is for sure only going to be 7.2 channels.

There was never a chance that the XMC-1 would have been more than 7.2.

That's to bad, because really cool gear should go to eleven. Always. So, no 5509 then, thanks, I will wait for the 5511. Why eleven? Eleven is one more than ten. Everybody knows that...

Just kidding!

If I really had to pick a processor or AVR today, it would be the 5509. I want 11.2, but on the same time, I would dislike to pay for a Denon 4311/4312 and not use the amps.

I would get two XPA-5 and use it without back surround. Whenever a 11.2 processor would emerge, I'd snap that and add one UPA-1 to power the center and use one XPA-5 for each side.

Anybody hear about the hypothetical Marantz AV8005? We know D&M is the mother, so they could use the 4311/4312 and loose the amps, nothing more , nothing less.
