What would be a good receiver for under $300.00? I currently have the jamo 606 and Bic f12 sub.

I was looking at the refurbished 1911 from macmall.

I know it's 7.1 but maybe in the near future i'll upgrade from 5.1 to 7.1

The Onkyo is way less expensive at Newegg.

You should get the receiver that has the features you need.

Do you want/need...

2nd zone?
Networking?
Upconversion?
Upscaling?
macro remote?

Do you have...
Wii?
VCR?
Turntable?
Ipod?
Android?
NAS?
HTPC?

Then for you, I would get the NR509.

By the way "macro remote"(for future reference) is when a remote has buttons to fire off a series of commands.

Just for "giggles", look up the NR709. Go to Amazon and look at the picture of the remote. The second row of buttons(labeled "activities") are the "macros"...

What it means(like I have mine set)...when you press "My TV" it fires off....

1. receiver
2. power
3. Cable/Sat
4. power
5 TV power

Which with the NR509 remote...you'll push those 5 buttons individually(and yes, that remote will control your Cable/Sat box, BD player and whatever else)

You will need to use an external amp for the 2nd zone(computer speakers...another 2 channel stereo...)

I would get the Denon 1611 over the older Denon 590.

But if you want networking the Onkyo 509 is your best bet.

I say the 509...if it has the features you want. Amazon a bit cheaper than Abt right now ($253.09).

Thank you Trumbull, I have a harmony one control, which does the same thing too.

Wouldn't the 1911 be a better option than the 1611?

I have a lot of research to do...

Onkyo 1911 adds a USB input for ipod and a video scaler which you said you don't
need. If you can get it under your $300 limit then sure go ahead get the 1911. Does it come with a warranty or do you have to buy one seperately? The 1611 comes with a 2 year warranty.

but it still doesn't offer networking if that's important to you.

So i narrowed it down to the Denon 1911 or the Yamaha A700. What do you guys recommend? Both can be had for under 300.

Thank you guys!

Neither of those models features "networking." You would need to get the newer Denon 1912 or Yamaha A710 for networking.
