Is there any replacement earpads for these headphones? My earpads get pealed after two years. I search with google and there is not any. I can use some other pads if possible, like sennheiser's. Has any one experience abouth this issue?

These headphones need a serious refresh.

Things that are needed/desired in an upgrade:

Dolby Atmos

DTS:X and DTS Headphone:X

4k/60Hz, HDR (HDMI 2.0a) and HDCP 2.2 support.

Anything else?

If they added these features I would pick one up in a heartbeat.

Aside from that, I'm not sure that there would be much benefit in supporting Atmos/DTS-X/Auro 3D formats at present. The headphones don't use several discrete drivers for multichannel audio. They take audio with up to 8 discrete channels and apply Sony's proprietary form of surround sound processing to essentially remix the audio down to two discrete channels that simulate 9.1 channel playback. I doubt you could tell the difference between a native 7.1 Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack and a Dolby Atmos/DTS-X soundtrack when played back thru a pair of headphones such as these, even if they supported object-based rendering.

In any case, I think the best course of action would be to develope a new "processor" unit that supports all of the latest audio and video formats. The processor could then be sold separately as an upgrade for those with the existing headphones. And, it could be sold as a bundle with the same headphones as the current model for those who do not already own the current model.

Are these still the only game in town when it comes to high end home theater headphones? Was hoping that something more up to date would be out by now...

Unfortunately no. If you want wireless headphones for HT the Sony MDRHW700DS is about as good as you're going to get. I'm sure there will be better eventually (maybe some iteration of Bluetooth), but for now, this is as good as it gets.

Thanks. Sucks but I am not surprised TBH. Bluetooth might get there but it still has ways to go. Plus with these you can have audio routed to two headsets at once while bluetooth is a one-headset thing only...

I finally wore out the headband. Surprisingly the original battery is still going strong. Now I just use it until it runs out of charge rather than recharging it every night. Still lasts for ~12hrs or so. Not bad considering I've owned it 5yrs.

I really hope Sony releases a HDCP 2.2 compliant version of these with Atmos and DTS-X. It's time.

Does what? Dolby Atmos and DTS X? No. There are various wireless headphones on the market but these (and the newer model) are still the best ones.
