Hey guys, I've been to this forum many times over the past few years, but haven't had much reason to make an account until now.

I'm currently looking into getting some speakers and a receiver for the home theater setup. I run a HTPC that has your standard integrated audio that's mediocre at best. I might get a sound card, but the motherboard does have an optical port, which I figured would do the job well enough until the receiver had its way with it. I'm also looking at a polk audio 5.1 set.

I'm looking for a receiver that won't kill my wallet, maybe $200 at most? Probably asking a lot, but I figured I'd give it a shot. I don't really run anything else in my home theater.. Currently, no video game consoles or anything. Just the HTPC.

Any recommendations? Ideas? There might even be a better solution since all I'm using is one video and audio connection. We're not even signed up for cable.

Oh, and thanks in advance.

well, it's saturday... which means it's yard sale day (at least around here)...

you probably can find yourself something that will do what you need real cheap at one of those...

also check your local craigslist...

A refurbished Denon 589 doesn't pass 3D but it is under your budget. Check out the Onkyo and Marantz refurbished AVRs from Accessories4Less. The least expensive one I'd consider there is the Onkyo 509. The Denon 589 has Audyssey Mult EQ room correction. Something you don't think you'll need until you actually use it.

When all else fails - RTFM!

Awesome! Thanks for the response guys. I'm going to look more into this tonight and tomorrow (when I finally find some more time).

I'll read up on that Denon and definitely check out Best Buy's Clearance. Great idea.

Oh wow. This is an awesome deal and pretty well future proofed (Also, my current tv is 3D, so HDMI w/ 3D is pretty cool). I think I'm gonna have to pull the trigger.

Thanks!
