Well folks... over the weekend, seems like my 2+ year old Harman Kardon decided to give up on me.... It sucks because that was my first kickass surround system. None of the HDMI ports are working anymore. Seems like the heating issue that I posted earlier was a sign.

Anyways.... so after having a "not-so-awesome" experience with HK, I have decided to steer away from HK now. I am trying to decide between Marantz, Yamaha and Onkyo now. Specifically:

Marantz SR6005

Yamaha RX-V867BL

Onkyo TX-NR709 (May be TX-NR609).

What do you guys think? It will be a 7.1 setup and I definitely need something with at least 2 optical in ports. Which one will you guys choose? And Why?

Thank you all in advance.

The Yamaha and Onkyo 609 won't be able to EQ the sub while the Onkyo 709 features the more advanced version of Audyssey MultEQ XT which has 8x more speaker filters than does the MultEQ in the Marantz 6005, although both can EQ the sub. Also, optical inputs can be added with an optical switch.

toofarzong >> Cant believe I left that part out. the three of the receivers I mentioned are for 600 and less, after discounts on Amazon. So around 600 will be a good number.

The Denon 3311 is a step up from the Marantz 6005. It compares to the 7005. I bought an open box one from Amazon for a great price and it was in perfect condition. It also comes with the denon warranty. Here is the link if you want to check it out. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...condition=used

Another vote for the Denon 3311 here. I recently purchased one refurbished for within your budget and am very pleased. I tried a few competing products including the Onkyo 709 which was very nice but to my ears the Denon sounded best. That said I do believe the Onkyo offers far more features for the same coin (always hard to walk away from that!).

Cheers,
NM
