When you have aux selected, go to the menu, then source setup, then down to audio selector and select analog. See if that works.

I assigned the component video3 in and renamed the aux button to gamecube. When I select aux on the remote I get the video but no audio. I am pretty sure I am missing something simple.

All the other connections that I have made work perfectly(HDMI, component video, optical audio etc)

Hi byeloe, analog audio is not assignable so since you assigned Component 3 video to "AUX", connect the audio to the front receiver "AUX" L and R audio jacks. If you don't want audio cables showing at front of the receiver, just leave connection as is and rename Component 3 video back to "GAME" (default). This should still work if HDMI 4 "GAME" port is assigned (to another console) and that source is not turned ON.

I am very happy with my 3009 and I now have a 706 to spare. Coincidentially my 6 channel computer system died.
Is there any way to hook up those 6 channels to the Onkyo or should I just go out and buy a new PC surround sound system?

I have the Sherwood R972 with Trinnov room correction and Im running a pair of Hsu VTF2 MK3 subs. My center is fairly low and I do use the 3D matrix to pull it up to screen level. In addition to adding several missing features absent in the Sherwood would the Audyssey version in the 3009 be a step up for me as far as room correction???

For the subs, probably. For everything else, probably not.

I purchased a 3009 in January 2013. I have a Technics turntable connected to the phono input. The Technics does not have a built-in preamp. I have noticed sound distortion when playing phono records using certain sound fields (most Dolby fields, for example). Other sound fields are normal (stereo, all channel stereo, for example). The problem is made worse when Sound Height speakers are enabled.

I have tested two different 3009 Receivers and found exactly the same results. I have done extensive testing on this issue and I have created a spreadsheet to capture all of the data. I have provided this data to Onkyo technical people, but so far I have not heard from them.

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Are other 3009 owners willing to perform similar tests and report results?

Hi

Thanks I reassigned some stuff and all works well now.

Another question if you don't mind. I would like to run 7.2 using FH instead of SB and have a powered zone 2. It doesn't seem like the 3009 will allow that. Is there anyway around that

thanks

I too have a technics turntable (sl-1200). I just recently got my 3000 also, about a month ago. After wiring everything up, I only put one piece of vinyl on just to make sure it worked. I didn't do any critical listening. I'm curious now, I'll do some tests and see if I get the same results, I don't have heights though.

I normally use a separate pre amp, a GAHRAM SLEE GRAM AMP II. I really like the sound of it on my old pio elite avr. I haven't hooked it up yet though, I've been too busy. I can say though my first impressions with the 3009's pre amp is that the gram amp is superior. I will try and do some tests in the near future.

Tx-NR3009 Soundfield_Input Evaluations.xls 36k .xls file

Thanks for your interest. I have attached the spreadsheet with the results of my evaluation. Even though you don't have a Front Height configuration, there are still plenty of of other modes in which I experienced distorted audio. Note the comparison columns on the right side of the spreadsheet - showing results when I tested the same configurations with an analog input while playing a CD on a DVD player.

If you don't mind, please provide the serial number of your unit. The two units I tested had serial numbers which were close together.

Regarding firmware, one unit was tested with the default firmware - the other one after downloading the firmware update. Same result regardless of the firmware iteration.

Looking forward to your report.

Best,

Is anyone using a ps3 as a CD player with the 3009? I am and would like to get the best sound possible. How would I hook it up? Right now I am using a hdmi cable between the two. When I put in a cd, my 3009 is set to BD. am I using the internal DAC of the ps3, or the 3009 this way? I would like to bypass the DAC in the ps3 and use the one in the 3009. Should I use a optical cable into the cd input of the 3009?

Hello Seeking..

I believe that, if you use either an optical cable, a coax cable, or an HDMI cable to connect your PS3 to your 3009, you are passing a digital signal from the PS3 to the 3009. Therefore, the 3009's DAC should be the device which converts that digital signal to an analog signal.

If you were to connect your PS3 audio to your 3009 via an RCA standard L/R audio cable, then you would be using the PS3's DAC to convert the digital signal to an analog signal, which you would then be passing to the 3009 via the audio cable.

Best,

Art

Hi

Trying to run 7.2 in the main area with Heights and a powered zone 2. As soon as powered zone 2 is selected the 7.2 option only allows use of Surround Backs.

Is there any way to use a powered zone 2 and 7.2 with heights in the main area?

thanks

Please read your manual again. I had the same problem before but it's ok after reading it carefully.

Hope it helps.

What's the best procedure for leveling subwoofers individually to 75dB, prior to running Audyssey, using your 3009's onscreen graphics?

You can download a PDF copy of the manual from Onkyo, or from Crutchfield.

I'm at work now and I'll try to re-read to manual after cleaning snow still dumping in Boston now. Anyway, as I remember you should have a look on the drawing of the back panel and on the page said about how to setup speakers right there,

Good luck.

Hi guys,
I own a 3010 with 2 HDMI exits (I think it is almost identical to the 3009), I have one connected to the TV (HDMI main) and the other (HDMI Zone 2/sub) to the projector. My problem is that I can only display the OSD menu through the main one (that us on the TV), and I cannot change that setting because of having HDMI Monitor Out set to "both"...any workaround? (a part from plug and unplug hdmi cables). My goal is to be able to access quick setup on the screen, etc.

Something that I noticed, and I cannot change that either, is that the resolution with the above settings above go straight to automatic. Can I manually select resolution somehow?

Last question, does anybody know if both HDMI exits provide same quality?

Thanks for your help

Hey

I am still having trouble, when I set powered zone2 on, the Audyssey set up uses surround backs and I can't seem to change to front heights instead.

If you got this to work can you please let me know how

thanks

Sorry, I have been so busy. OK, as I have a look on the manual's page 10 on the back panel. If you want to setup zone 2, your speakers should be connected to FRONT WIDE left and right. And on page 51 advance setup said you should not have Bi-Amp selected or speakers type front B is enabled.
So re check your setup and you could see from there.

Hi All, quick question if someone could help. I just picked up a 5009 and my display is a Panasonic 65 VT50. The picture is great, but the GUI from the onkyo just doesn't look sharp, nor does the volume display when it pops on the TV. Is this normal, are they all the same. It's all legible, but dosn't look sharp. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The OSD indeed looks like a trip down memory lane. Really amazing that it's obviously so hard to make an OSD with a resolution greater than a Gameboy.

The phono section works very well with a Technis SL-1200 Mk. II turntable and Shure M95XE cartridge. The Dolby PLII music and movie modes appear to function without a problem, although the stereo mode with Audyssey room correction seems to sound best. There system is 5.2, ,i.e. without side or height channels.
