I'm looking for a receiver in the $300 range with analog to HDMI conversion. I also want it to have the HDMI audio return channel. I'll only be using it for 2 speakers and possibly a subwoofer.

Here are a few that I've found that would work:

Pioneer VSX-32
Sony STR-DN1010
Sony STR-DH820
Yamaha RX-V571

I'm sure there are others. Please send your suggestions.

Check your local area Best Buy stores as you should be able to get last year's Denon 1611 (Audyssey MultEQ) on clearance below your budget and will meet your requirements.

Denon AVR 591 and 1611. No video upscaling but will convert analog video to HDMI. Also uses HDMI 1.4 for 3D capability and Audio Return.

Denon 1611 can be found at Vanns in your price range. Also check local Best Buy's for clearance sales.

I would take the Denons over any of the receivers mentioned above. Actually I own the Denon 591.

The Denon 1611 looks good except for the small number of analog inputs. Most other receivers have at least 2 component video inputs.

What about the Onkyo HT-RC360? It has a very similar feature set with more analog inputs. It only has Audyssey 2EQ though.

The Pioneer VSX-921K would work also.

Yeah, I already have one of those. It's glitchy, and I'd rather not use it.

AFAIK, just that you only need an HDMI connection from receiver to TV/projector (HDMI doesn't pass analog).
