Here is my need: this system will be in a family room with a TV above the fireplace. Inputs for this amp will be a STB (uverse), squeezebox, and dvd-player (soon to become a BD player). I will be connecting the STB and dvd video outs directly to the TV, so I don't need any fancy video switching. All of these components have digital and analog audio out. I want to output to two speakers beside the tv as well as two speakers on our back porch. So I either need stereo A/B speaker outputs or I guess I could always hook up a speaker selector.

Any thoughts on this monoprice selector: http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

The catch is that the space for this device is very narrow. I'm thinking I could fit something only 14" wide. Also, I don't want to break the bank as I am in the middle of upgrading a dedicated media room. So I'm hoping for a couple hundred dollars max.

Bottom line: looking for a small (width) device that can handle switching between 3 audio inputs (digital preferred) and output to speakers in two areas (but I may be able to do this with a speaker selector)

Thoughts, ideas, recommendations?

You're not going to find many stereo amps with digital inputs out there in the first place. The HK 3490 does but this is a full sized receiver at 17" wide.

Maybe this Yamaha YMC500 will do the trick. It has 3 HDMI inputs, 1 digital coax and 1 optical. Also converts analog video to HDMI. Dimensions 12.38 x 3.63 x 11.75

You can see better pictures on Newegg's site.

I cannot attest to the quality of this unit.

Boy that Yamaha sure is a weird looking box.

Am thinking a bookshelf amp. Not gonna be very powerful at all, and probly will not have capability for 2 set of speakers.

You may find a small bookshelf amp to suit your needs, but probably not one with digital inputs.

a speaker selector should be fine for this application, correct?
