Hi, I currently have a Sony ES-Series system:

CD: X339ES
Tape: 750ES
Tuner: 530ES
+ DAT Player

I want to replace my Sony F435R with some Sony amplifier from the ES-Series from 1990-1995 (so they fit with the rest of my components). Anyone can recommend me some models?

It needs to support a remote controller (will use a Logitech Harmony).

My speakers:
Magnat Zero 5 (4 Ohm ?)
&
Magnaet Zero 8 (8 Ohm ?)

I also thought about upgrading to a 5.1 system (as I already have 4 good speakers) but I guess listening to music with some AV-Receiver won't be as good as a decent stereo amplifier?

Thanks

you would need to look at the TA-F808ES or TA-F707ES models with MOS-FET transistors... They were very expensive.... $1500 for the 808. I still use one.. It's a very nice unit but has analog inputs only. The speaker connection will only accept stripped wires, they do not accept banana plugs as it uses a twist to lock knob. They are serious amps as they can handle down to 2-ohms load. Very heavy. 55lbs for 100 wattsx2...

If it's not a BIG screen, it's not a theater...

I don't need any banana connectors and also only use cinch connectors So this sounds perfect. But 1500$ is a lot. I saw the 690ES for ~150$

I have one (GA9ESG) from around or just after that time - maybe 1996. The one that originally came with the weird "egg" remote that was partially motion controlled like prehistoric wii. I could be persuaded to part with it if you're interested - it works great, just doesn't have the "egg" remote - long ago lost. Heavy and powerful, in great condition. There was one listed recently on ebay for $475 without the remote, but I don't think anyone bit at that price.

Hi

The model(s) you are looking for are called:
STR - GX40ES
STR - GX50ES
STR - GX60ES

These units are all Class A amplifiers.

I have the GX60ES unit, which has 130 watts at 8 ohms up to 240 watts at 2 ohms. I am the original owner, bought it in 1990 for about 900 dollars! (I also have the ES series CD player)

I am getting the 60 repaired at the moment (I lost the left channel recently) and should have it back in a month.

I have seen all three models for sale on various sites, any of them would be a worthy addition to you set-up.

Any information you might need just email me.

Brian
