Onkyo sends the low-pass signal from the L/R/C/Surrounds based on each individual crossover setting in both stereo and surround modes.
-L/R set to 80Hz crossover= sub outputs the sound from L/R below 80Hz
-Surrounds set to 100Hz crossover= sub outputs the sound from the surrounds below 100Hz
The LFE setting is just for the discrete .1 channel in 5.1 or 7.1 mixes.
FYI... I would set the LFE channel to the highest setting 120Hz to allow 100% of the signal to come through as the recording engineer has intended. Just IMHO of course.
Neauxla,I am actually currently looking a new receivers in this same price range as well. I have considered:
Yamaha RX-A810, Onkyo TX-NR709, Denon AVR-3312CI and Pioneer VSX-1121
After LOTS of research (including forum threads, professional reviews, user reviews and reading through each receiver's user manual, yes I am hardcore
), I am planning on going with the TX-NR709. Actually they are all good receivers. You just have to decide what features and characteristics are important to you.
