Which receiver(s) has the best implemented iOS controls? At the very least, I need to be able to change sources/volume/pandora stations remotely. For example, I want to be able to be sitting in Zone 2, within wifi range, and be able to change stations/volume/mp3 tracks remotely.

Pioneer 1121-k? Onkyo nr809? Denon? Yamaha? Something else?

Yamaha one seems good. It's free and you can explore options in demo mode even without a receiver.

Apparently, you can download the apps and demo them for yourself. Just from first impression, it looks like pioneer > yamaha > onkyo. Any other ones I should consider?

The oRemote is supposed to be much better than the actual app made by Onkyo, but I haven't tried it. It costs $4.99.

I have posted many screenshots of ORemote for Onkyo AVRs over the last few months, I think it is brilliant. i use the dedicated iPad version and iPhone one, which seems a little cluttered after iPad, but fine for basic controls like you mentioned.

Very impressive, and the developer is constantly improving - to requests too.

Such as deleting unused Listening Modes etc.

The Onkyo may need looking at in detail if Zones are very important, as there are limitations on controls and a couple of bugs been filed to Onkyo.

Things like random not working correctly (I think in Spotify) and I think you have to do set up in Z1 then switch Z2 to Net.

If it is vital, you should investigate more.

iControlAV2 looked impressive, but I went Onkyo Amp in the end (iOS control was a minor factor) - no regrets with my 809. Best amp I have owned.

There are several iphone apps for Denon AVRs both FREE and for fee. There's also iRule which is similar to a universal remote to control multiple AVR brands/devices.

---------------------------------
"JD" – jd@avscience.com ; shop.avscience.com ; 585-645-1006, AVScience - Authorized dealer for AVRs, Speakers, etc.

Daily 8am – 8pm EST (Sat/Sun too if you leave message)
Call for pricing - Denon, Marantz, Yamaha, Pioneer, Onkyo, Def Tech, Atlantic Tech, Oppo
** Think the AVR is defective?  Reset the microprocessor 4-5 times.

man I am having a really hard time deciding. i actually could really use 3 different zones, so I am limited to the onkyo 809 or the pioneer vsx53.... tough decision.

the pioneer definitely has the better stock iphone app.... does this third party onkyo app work well? Right now I am leaning towards the pioneer vsx53...

Yamaha app is also good, but they dont have an affordable 3 zone amp.
