I am currently using an Onkyo HT-R550 with a 7.1 speaker set-up. Speakers are from the same HTIB.
I am wondering if upgrading my receiver would allow for any appreciable difference in sound quality?
I realize its very subjective, but my blu-rays and xbox don't sound as 7.1-ish as I had expected.
I mainly watch HD cable, xbox games, and blu-ray movies all hdmi'd to a sanyo plv-z600 projector in an enclosed theater room.
Currently blu-ray/cable box and xbox connect to receiver via optical cables.

Speakers are the first thing for upgrading. And a new sub especially if your doing gaming.

The receiver won't really change the sound that much unless your getting more dedicated in your setup. If your not happy with what you have now chances are the receiver isn't going to change that. Room acoustics and new speakers are going to do it more
