I think everyone will be happy with the higher end Pioneer models.....

Thanks for keeping us up to date. Look forward to hearing more, and you're right, I hadn't fully considered the price difference.

Took a quick look at the website - I will say that the higher-end version of the main Pioneer line looks like it's gotten some nice trickle-down features from the Elites - Marvell Qdeo upscaling and Airplay, in other words.

Doesn't look like I was too far off. Updated the original post with a link to the official site.

Now we wait for the VSX Elites, then the SC ones. I don't have any information there at all.

Up next:

Elite VSX-42.
Elite VSX-60.

I'm not sure if it's new or not, but the ability to play 192 kHz/24-bit FLAC is nice. I think we're heading towards a point where lossy compression won't be necessary for large music libraries because of storage improvements.

No pre-outs on any of the new models? Could somebody list what Pioneer receivers out right now have pre-outs?
I might want to buy a Emotiva XPA-3 and a new receiver.

Is there any special, inevitable reason for releasing new AVRs every damn year?
The 4K upscaling, unusable for at least another 3 years?
are they gonna make the VSX-1121´s successor a class D amp for a similar price as the predecessor? don´t think so...
or is it just an answer to Onkyo´s 2012 line?
I´m really curious what´s so new and cool could be there, the VSX-1121 has been out for less than 9 months, with DLNA, AirPlay, FLAC support, Marvell chip, etc...

The new pioneers look like a disappointment, more software less hardware. If your a apple head, I guess you'll be impressed, there target market age group must be around twenty and cashless. These units look like there be at 40% off sale most of the time..
Wimpy avrs....

Compared to current and bf pricing on the 1121, the 1122 would probably go for around $300 at times. That's a lot of receiver for the price.

I like what pioneer is doing with a lot of their lineup this year. I picked up the new 3400bh head unit for the car and it is a great value for the price too.

Then again, unless MCACC catches up to XT32, their higher end models don't seem worth it to me. No reason to switch from my 4311.

I was pretty excited to see what was in store this year for the 1122, and frankly, it's a letdown. Sure the price is better, but one glaring omission from the 1122 is the THX Select II plus certification. I was also hoping for some improved front panels and knobs. Every 2011 Pioneer had the cheapest, most plastic feeling volume/input knobs I have ever used. I have a 2004 Yamaha that has a nice smooth, heavy aluminum volume knob. I was waiting to see what the 2012 models would hold, but it's looking like last year's 1121 at around 330 is looking pretty good right about now.

I´m really curious what´s so new and cool could be there, the VSX-1121 has been out for less than 9 months, with DLNA, AirPlay, FLAC support, Marvell chip, etc...

for the same reason as why there's a "new and updated" model car every year, even if it's just a cosmetic change... they can't be perceived as falling behind...

anecdotally, we see this come up in the denon 4311 thread occasionally... someone will come asking questions, and their perception of the unit is "it was released 2 years ago, it is behind the times"... and "why haven't they released a newer, more modern model?"... and "when is the new one coming out?"... heck, that last question gets asked in every avr thread repeatedly, sometimes within 2 or 3 months of the release of the current one...

to a large extent, you can blame the consumer for this... there's an expectation on the consumer side that a "new, improved model" should be brought out every year... so they tinker a bit, like change the color of the gui, or add more functionality to an app, and then market the hell out of it...

realistically, unless there is a specific feature a user needs, such as hdmi 1.4 for 3d, or 1.3 for sacd, or a few other minor things, a hdmi 1.1 avr from many years ago has all the actual "functionality features" they need... but good luck trying to sell one...

Oops, my apologies bladerunner6. Typo. I meant 430. There have been some deals floating around the 380 mark lately though. Ya just gotta be on the lookout.

I just bought a 521 a few months ago, not much has changed, luckily for me

Seeing the back panel of a Pioneer so bare is a little weird, but it was bound to happen. Denon et al. have already dropped most analogue ins on their budget AVRs.

Can't wait to see the new Elites...I ran out of HDMI inputs on my VSX-21TXH a while back Since all the non-Elites seem to have the brushed look this year, perhaps there's a chance they'll bring back the urushi finish for the '12 Elites to distinguish the lines...a guy can dream.

It's a two way road...there would have to be a legal agreement between manufactures to not update every year in order for it to really not happen. If one company, say Pioneer, decides not to update, another company will take advantage of the opportunity!

I'll be keeping my eye out for good deals on a vsx-1121-k.
If it gets to $325 open box or $350 new, I will not be able to resist.

Not interested in the vsx-1122-k.

I was happy to get it new for 400 @ Amazon, when they had it once...
anything under 500-600 USD would still be a good deal for me as its closest EU equivalent VSX-2021 costs around 650-800 EUR here in EU...(850-1100 USD)
I didn`t need 2 HDMI outs or 12v triggers on VSX-2021, that`s pretty much the only difference between the two...
so even with USPS overseas shipping and a good price for new 1500W voltage converter, it ended at some 520 EUR overall...

I am pretty excited by the new VSX-1022 now that I looked at the Pioneer website.
Because of all the 'special deals' on the 921 I was actaully going for this old model.
But the specification overview of the 1022 is showing: iTunes Movie / TV / Video Playback - YES

Does this really mean I can stream movies etc. from itunes without the need of an appletv? If this is the case this receiver would be a day-one buy for me as I would not need a mediaplayer anymore.
Can someone confirm this? and also give me more details on the supported resolution? I hope 1080p as the new AppleTV does.

nope... read closer... you'd need to be hard connected (i.e. with the included cable) to do that (which, fwiw, you can do with current models)...

"airplay" is still audio only...

Airplay video playback I was for shure not expecting.
But I cannot find any details on this iTunes Movie / TV / Video Playback, If you mean this can be done through the Ipod connection it looks useless to mention this in the 'handheld and internet' section (maybe not I realize while typing )

But I was hoping for mediaplayer capabilities with the internet connection.
To me it doesn't make sense to mention 'iTunes Movie / TV / Video playback' if you actually only support Ipod/Ipad/Iphone playback.
But we will see, I am looking forward to the first Hand-on review.

1) go to the link that you posted... scroll down to the "airplay" section... read...

2) go to this link describing the vsx-1021 (last years model)...

click me

and see the handheld and internet section... note that it is exactly the same as for the vsx-1022...

what you are hoping for would be nice, but it's not an option on the 1022... sorry...

As per usual, the first Elites are just minor upgrades to the standard vsx line

Elite VSX-42
This is a VSX-1022 with added features:
12V Trigger
IR Control
Zone 2 pre-out (stereo)

Elite VSX-60
This is a VSX-1122 with added features:
12V Trigger
RS-232
Component video 2 in 1 out - (The 1122 has 1 in, 0 out)
DVR monitor out (composite + stereo RCA)

Apart from having the gold Elite cosmetics, these appear to be the only differences.

Nope. Looking at previous years, the SC line usually starts mid-year so I'd guess June. There's probably a few more VSX's in April and May.

Keep in mind that I'm not exactly an awesome source privy to Pioneer's innermost secrets. If I find anything out ahead of time, it's usually mere days away from official announcement. I get to hear about products that are finished, just not released yet. Nothing about products in the pipeline.

VSX-1027 and VSX-1127 appear to be very similar to the VSX-1022 and VSX-1122, respectively. No-compete models perhaps?

"SC-61"? That somehow comes across as a rather...incremental....product upgrade vs. the 55/57 series.

I've never understood the Elite numbering system. Especially since they're running out of numbers and are reusing them.

Not counting Susano, the SCs have been SC-x5 and SC-x7 since the start. Without any factual basis I would guess a 61 means additional SC models this year.

Hello,

I was looking into purchasing the VSX-53 but am interested to know more about the 2012 model.

I was told today that it might have some audio upgrades.

Just assumed it would have more bells and whistles that I do not need.

But SQ is extreamly important to me.

The replacement model I have found is VSX-2012.
Think this is either a joke or I need new glasses or both.

Anyone know anything about this?

Thank you
