hey guys what are your thoughts about upgrading to the denon 4311 for my pre-amp? I like the Pre-amp mode that the 4311 offers. Which is the better machine?? My only compliant as of right now is that I have a low background hum coming from my speakers. I have figured out that the 4308 is to blame due to process of elimination. But to make a long story short the xpa 5 is picking it up since it has such a high gain. Will I gain anything with the new 4311, better sound, anything?? The 4308 has advanced AL24 on all channels.......idk i'm in limbo as of right now. Can get the 4311 @ newegg @ a good price.... any thoughts, suggestions, and opinions are greatly appreciate!!!

first, unless you want a feature on the 4311 (and imo, it has the killer app that the 4308 doesn't), i'd look further into the hum issue...

as a direct answer, yes, the 4311 would make a fine pre... i would have used mine in that manner if the internal amplification wasn't adequate for my use (which it turned out to be)...

Don't order from Newegg as they are not an authorized Denon reseller and therefore Denon will not honor the 3 year warranty, but rather call one of the other authorized resellers that will match the Newegg deal, Electronics Expo, J&R, or AV Science being the most popular.

Thanks for your input. I have not made a move as of yet. Still going to do my research..
As for the hum, 4308 unplugged (no power) and all cables pulled and only IC's are connected get hum. XPA5 powered on and no IC's plugged in, no hum. When I introduce more then one IC then I get hum....very strange...

Hi guys
can I run audyssey xt32 setup if I'm driving LFC with external amps connected with preouts from denon 4311ci and surrounds with the 4311ci amps ?

Yes, Audyssey can still be run when external amps are powering some or all of your main zone speakers. smile.gif

You may find that you won't gain any benefit from using your external amps in comparison to how the AVR-4311ci drives your Home Theater...That said, I would call AVS to see if they can price match OneCall.com which is a Denon Authorized dealer and have a good price on the AVR-4311ci right now.

You may also want to ask about the Denon AVR-4520ci and see what their thoughts are about Denon possibly having a firmware update to get it HDMI 2.0 compliant.

There won't be any firmware upgrade for HDMI 2.0 .. rather only new models yet to be released will include it.
