Just picked up a TX-SR508 on clearance for about half what I saw it priced at online. I jumped at the deal and headed home to check AVSForum before opening the package.

Seems from the thread I've listed below, it has a problem with HDMI pass-through - video flickering, now signal, etc. I intend to plug two PC's in via HDMI as well as audio from an SD DVD player. I want to plug it into my LG tv and use Simpilink to run the sound from the TV. I don't want frustration.

Just wondering if anyone is successfully using one of these models?

I would return it. I used to be a big ONKYO fan but I have had two recievers that the HDMI board went bad on me. So I decided to jump ship. I now own a Pioneer Elite VSX-52 so far so good but its only been a couple of months.

Sharp Elite Pro 60

Pioneer Elite VSX-52 Receiver

Pioneer Elite  BDP-62FD BluRay

I've plugged in one HDMI source and the TV (nothing else). Playing with Simplink to see if it works right. From there I may hookup and try AVR. Figure I'll try and put it through the paces and see about what works and doesn't prior to the return.

It didn't come with the Audyssey mic. So I'm going to need to find out why.

I hope you got the 508 for about $120 or less because otherwise I would take it back.

You can get the NR509 which comes with networking and the Audyssey mic for $199 -$229 on sale.

The NR509 adds networking but is only 5.1 (instead of 7.1).

Also loses PLIIz (which I think is because of the lack of 7.1).

So it's more of a trade-off, not necessarily a trade-up.

Though I'd be interested in hearing whether or not people have better luck with the HDMI in's and out's on the NR-509.
