Does Yamaha make a THX certified receiver and if so would one compare to the Onkyo TX-NR709 or TX-NR809

Thanks

Not anymore they don't. Whether their receivers would meet your needs is another question, but you did not ask that one

Wow Called Yamaha and the guy didn't have a clue as to what THX was. Then asked what system do the receivers is for calibration and again he had no idea. He said a second level CSR would call back in up to 48 hrs.

Not very good for them. I wonder if all the manufactures CSR are this clueless?

Reason I'm asking is I might be able to get a Yamaha unit at Manufacture employee pricing. If so would I be able to get something comparable to a Onkyo 709 at a better price or even something better for the same $535 price range.

So since they don't have THX certified receivers anymore do the stack up to a THX Onkyo or Denon?

Been awhile since I took a careful look at bench tests. In the past Onkyo seemed to be the king when it came to $$$ spent vs bench test power.

But Yamaha is where I would put MY money for a reliable receiver.

For room correction, Audyssey's XT level (think that's the best Audyssey Onkyo uses) may win, and Yamaha does not do Audyssey.

Yamaha uses there own room correction called YPAO and they haven't been THX rated for a while due to not paying to have them tested. Purely a money decision. I would guess the RXA-1010 or better would do just fine.

I guess I'll start a thread comparing the rxa 1010 to the onkyo 709.

That's a lot of BS, Yamaha still has THX logos on their higher end stuff. I seen one at BB Mongolia series that has THX C2 on it vim.

You responded to a two year old thread smile.gif I am curious what model you saw that on. I have not seen a THX badge on any Yamaha receiver in a long time. Looking at their receivers on their web page I see nothing either.
