Hello everyone ,
Instead of posting this on the official Thread , I decided it would be more direct to make a new thread.

In the last few months I have seen a few SC-57's have some HDMI issues that all seem to be related.
Basically It's video drop out and audio remains over HDMI sources. These include cable boxes , Apple TV's and Blu ray players of different kinds. One SC-57 will play Component over HDMI unconverted but will no longer input anything HDMI in a matter of a few days since new.

Anyone else experiencing HDMI issues of any kind? No firmware updates that I have sen yet to address any HDMI issues.

No one is having any glitchy issues? Just to give some Elite History , I've been a owner and Installer for Elite since the early 90's and never had even a single issue with any of their products until the 3 series and now 5 series Elites receivers and all Blu ray players after the bdp-05 and 09

Hi Mantis,
The only issue I've had with newer SCs was when PQLS was set to 'on': our Panasonic G15 TV wouldn't get a picture over HDMI when I owned the SC-27. But the SC-57 I purchased last year has been just fine with both the Panasonic and an Oppo BDP-93 on HDMI, with PQLS activated. Both are LT 25 ft. runs.

FWIW I don't think I've seen much mention of HDMI dropouts or glitches on the SC-55/57 thread either. You may want post there for more feedback.

I've read through some of it and didn't find any issues so I didn't find any resolutions.
The one I had problems with Yesterday I fixed today with a hard reboot. Everything is back working for now. I'm crossing my fingers it's stays that way.

the bluray players are junk...

as far as the sc goes, other than the normal cable box follies, it doesn't seem to have any inherent hdmi/hdcp issues...

Could be a bad unit (bad connection someplace)...

Only problem I have is my &^%^# Comcast cable box. Actually the basic box works fine; the DVR's HDMI output is useless. This into a Pioneer or a Sony AVR and even direct into the TV (Samsung).

chris, I don't know about the generations in between the 05/09 and the current ones, but reading the threads on the latest models, your statement is sure appropriate.

yea steve, it's pretty amazing how bad they are... i gave up reading those threads a little bit ago (i think you remember why ), but the word "woeful" comes to mind...

to be honest, it would seem to me that the majority of "issues" that are reported in the sc-5x thread are between the keyboard and the chair... as noted, the cable box issues persist, but pio can't be blamed for that... that's been an issue since day 1 with all avrs from all cems...

+1 on both points; although these days I don't see why anybody that could afford $500 for a BluRay would go for anything other than a certain unit that's a four letter word, if they've got internet access.....the only reason would be some sort of package deal at a B&M store with a BluRay thrown in or bundled in a single purchase, or a firm belief in "brand equity" to imply some sort of competitive advantage as a deal-breaker. YMMV/IMO of course.

For what it is, based on the 55/57 thread, the newest SC is a solid unit if you read the manual and understand basic HT principles. My own experience certainly goes along with that. As long as you don't care about a certain shortcoming that's been beaten to death on AVS, it's a good value as a "what you see is what you get" product.

yea... i've drank the whole bottle of kool-aid when it comes to the four letter word brand for disk spinners... for 5 benjamins, you cannot beat it... plays anything you put in it*, has support for just about any container that the "rippers" can come up with, and their "customer experience" is the best in the electronics business (them and lumagen are unparalled, imo/ime)...

* other than red disks... hopefully my xa2 will never die...

I have been a proud owner of Elite recievers since the mid 90's and about 5 months ago i purchased my first sc model. I have to say that i've never had a problem with any elite reciever until now. As of 5 months ago i purchased my first Elite SC model. The SC-57. All speakers have been updated and connected to take advantage of its abilities, high-end hdmi cables (3D), and its the newest addition to my sony bravia internet t.v., sony 3D blu-ray player and sony ps3 all onthe home network for music/videofiles/pics. Everything was working fine even though theres so much to this reciever it will probably take forever to learn everything about it but i got the setting right about a week after purchase and havent changed ANY SETTINGS for months. Lately when i take a break from work or studying for class i will play the ps3 or redbox rentals using the sony blu-ray player. Today, I turn on my blu-ray player which of course turns on the t.v. for me and the signal transfers through the reciever (didnt actually turn it on), the t.v. went black as usual and displayed at the top -HDMI 1 player3(BD)- suddenly as if nothing is connected the screen goes back to Sony's blue standby screen as it waits on a signal. I found this strange and figured something was wrong with the blu-ray. So i did the same with my PS3. Same thing, screen goes black, displays the equipment type then jumps back to the Sony's standby screen. 2 equipment errors? Im usually good at trouble shooting. I've installed home theathers many times and sometimes i know taking a moment and thinking and maybe pulling out the manual sometimes helps. Or even getting some sleep first lol. Well, i figured to check the sc-57's GUI, the display on the face of the reciever showed me that the GUI was ready, but no on-screen display! arg! So, i reached for my backup high-end hdmi cable because sometimes they do go bad. Connected it, same deal. I emailed Pioneer tech support via email because at the time this happened it was pretty late, have yet to recieve a response but im getting impatient. I see that there is a new system update on the website but im not sure if that will address the problem. If anyone is having this same issue, please let me know if there is a remedy. I really dont mind a hard reset but would rather not. To add, music works fine, it shows up on the network and i've connected the other devices directly to the t.v. and those components work fine without the reciever.

I have owned Elite stuff for many years. Had my Pioneer Elite DV59-AVI for 8 years and never a problem with it. Don't think i would ever give it up, also own the 05 and 51 FD bd players and they also have been trouble free.

So far my Elite SC35 AVR has been rock solid for the over 6 months i have owned it.

I owned one for about a week and the HDMI board crapped out...got nothing on the screen even in setup. Took it back my dealer and swapped it plus cash for and Anthem MRX-300 and Demo A5.

I'm almost glad to read this post since I thought I was crazy. I bought the SC-55 and hooked it all up and was fairly pleased with it. After about a week the HDMI died. Called Pioneer and they were very helpful walking through setups and helping me determine that the unit was malfunctioning.

I took the receiver back to where I purchased it and they cheerfully refunded my money and ordered me another. When it came in I hooked it all up and it worked great. That was a week ago. Worked fine Friday night. Saturday morning the wife is complaining there is nothing on the monitor. Blue HDMI light extinguished. Will not even do a factory reset. This one is going back tomorrow. I'm shocked. Back to the drawing board.

I can't imagine I did anything wrong - twice. This is not my first HT setup. This Receiver replaced my Denon which i think I cooked inside the equipment rack after about 6 years. But the Pioneer did not go in a rack. It is sitting out in the open with lots of air all around it. Anyway, this scares me, and for this price I don't want another.

I have been having HDMI issues with my SC-57 since I bought it. It would not play Dolby Digital only stereo on HDMI1 so I've been using HDMI 2, but now none of the HDMI's work and when I turn off the unit, it takes almost a minute to respond to the manual off button. I hope its not out of warranty yet.

Hello all,

I have also been having issues with my Pioneer Elite SC-57 I purchased in November 2011. This would be the second time the issue has popped up, and of course nobody seems to know the exact problem. It is described below:

The receiver itself will work fine for months at a time, pumping the allotted amount of power to my B&W system, and recreating a great sound. However, I will go to power on the unit the next day, and it takes approximately 10 seconds longer to power on than usual, doesn't recognize any HDMI sources even though they are active, nor will pass video via HDMI out to the TV for the GUI or the aforementioned HDMI sources. Even when I switch to the HMG source, it will show that it actively connects to Pandora, again without the GUI being displayed, or audio coming from the speakers as it should. Additionally, it takes about 10 seconds longer to power off too. I have changed NOTHING since I have seen full functionality of the unit, and this all just happened without an explanation. Of course I call the Geek Squad, who has NO IDEA what I'm talking about, and tells me to bring the unit in store to be sent out and serviced AGAIN for 3 weeks or more. The last time I did this, they sent it back saying there was no fault found, HDMI worked, and a firmware update was performed. I brought it home, and indeed, it worked again so I wasn't asking questions until now. This time, I checked for another firmware update to try and fix it myself, there are none to speak of. I attempted to get in touch with Pioneer to see if they might have had a tech that could troubleshoot, no such luck.

If there is ANYTHING that you guys know that I could do here, please speak up. This has become extremely frustrating that the centerpiece of my system keeps going bad, as it renders the rest of it useless unless its working. Everything I read prior to purchase said this was a great unit, and I'm starting to question that.......
