Hi everyone,

Does anyone know of a receiver that doesn't consume power until it receives Airplay audio, either via Toslink digital, or directly via ethernet? Ideally, I'd like to walk into a room, pull out my iPhone/iPad/Mac & start playing music, select the AirPlay audio sink, and that's all - no hunting for remotes or turning things on manually.

Thanks,
Peter

Denon networking AVRs with Airplay offer a "Network Standby" feature in which you can use an iphone, ipad, or itouch to bring the AVR out of Standby mode and start using the Airplay feature. Review post #2 in the Denon XX12 Owner's thread linked in my sig ... 1912, 2112CI, 2312Ci, and 3312CI.

I know that the Denons that have AirPlay will turn on when sent AirPlay info via ethernet.

Looks like jd beat me to it!

Thanks for the tips! That was an incredibly helpful thread. Some more questions: Anything other than a Denon have this feature? Does the Denon support auto-off after a period of inactivity? Do you need to use a separate app to turn in on, or does it just do the right thing?

Thanks again!

Currently some Denon, Marantz, and Pioneer AVRs support Airplay. The Denon does not support "Auto Off." There are several "remote" apps (iphone, ipad, android) which can be used to turn ON the Denon AVR.

All of the new Denon XX13 models now feature "Auto Standby" with settings of 30min, 60min or OFF on the 1613 and higher. The 1713 and higher are all networking models that support Airplay with the Network Standby feature to power on the AVR via iPhone, iPad. The 1913 is available now with the 1713, 2113CI, and 2313CI models being released next month and the 3313CI being released in June.

Now, if only I can find a receiver that is low profile which does that (auto-off) .. like the Marantz 1602, with airplay.

Any other receivers have auto off, or just the Denons?

Also, do you have to use a separate app to turn the receiver on, or does it auto-on like the Apple Tv?

Any news on this topic? I am searching for the same thing as the topicstarter; a receiver that can auto-turn on when I stream Airplay with an iOS device, and preferably also auto-turn off after some time of inactivity. I could go for a Denon xx13, but are there any alternatives?

Looks like the Sony STR-DN1030 can do auto-on ... it's not quite out yet, and I don't know whether it does auto-off as well.

I've read that the Marantz 7005 can do auto-on on Airplay as well, also unsure about auto-off

Any Denon/Marantz AVR that features "Network Standby" (which goes back a number of years) can be turned ON when streaming audio to it, while the "Auto Standby" feature has just been introduced in this years' new Denon XX13 and Marantz XX03/X007 models.

What's the difference between Network Standby and Auto Standby?
It would be nice if someone with more experience could post a summary of what receivers can do, especially in regards to the scenario from this thread's first post :-) Thanks!

All of the newer 2012 yamah rx models with networking (maybe the older models too) support air play. They can be auto turned on as well. I haven't found an option for auto off yet but with smartphone app you can turn off the receiver from your phone.

Your post helped me did the answer to my post:D thanks!

Whoops I meant to specify Yamaha rx models do this:o

Network Standby - allows the AVR to be turned on via a network connected device (eg. PC or smart phone).
Auto Standby - turns the AVR off after no activity or audio or video input for a set period of time ... 30 min or 60 min.

By "turned on", do you mean you need to use a separate app to turn it on, or can you just switch the audio route to the AVR even if the AVR is in standby (like you can with an AppleTV)?

Streaming audio to the AVR will turn the AVR ON.

Denon AVR-2113 and Marantz NR1603 both look interesting...what would the (main) difference(s) between these 2 be?
