I have a Pioneer 1021 AVR with a Panasonic 65ST30 plasma tv. Recently I've been getting a random HDCP error when watching comcast tv (it happened with the apple tv a couple times also). The screen just turns black and the AVR says HDCP error. I have to turn the AVR on/off to get it working again. It is really annoying and seems to be random. Any thoughts? I'm using HDMI only.
Comcast boxes are among the worst offenders of HDMI handshake errors, although can be easily resolved by bypassing the AVR and passing HDMI straight to the TV with optical from the box to the AVR for surround sound.
So I've ruled out some of the issues. I've come to the conclusion the problem is somewhere between the Panasoic Plasma and AVR.
I just had the error come up on the apple tv, and once I turned the panasonic tv off, but left everything else the same, the error stopped. I ordered a few new HDMI cables in case that is the problem. The TV is a Panasonic 65ST30
Aghh I'm getting really frustrated now. I tried what you said several times but I got the error at least 15 times while watching tv tonight. I've turned off video conversion on the AVR too but the issue still persists.
So the screen goes black, it says HDCP error on the AVR, but the audio remains. Sometimes the video appears by itself, other times I have to restart the AVR and/or the TV as well.
Maybe the tv is bad Will the store let you return it still?
The TV is from Amazon so I have like 2 weeks left to return it. I didn't have any issues for the first week I had it. Things just started getting weird the 2nd week.
Now that I think about it, the problem seems to have started after I tried hooking up my PS3 to the AVR which didn't work. I thought maybe the HDMI port on the PS3 was just busted because I couldn't get a clear picture, it kept being fuzzy. I didn't really get a chance to research it again but it seems like all these HDCP errors have been happening after that night.
I don't have comcast hdmi or a avr with hdmi on it, so I can't give good information on troubleshooting that, but I keep reading about a lot of hdmi issues with receivers. I was just playing xbox live on my 42 inch panasonic lcd tv. I plan to hook up my stereo receiver with speakers to it, but I haven't done it yet. careful with amazon return policy. they make you pay hefty re stocking fees on some items. since the tv might be defective maybe they won't charge you to return it. I haven't had any issues yet playing ps3 with hdmi on the tv yet.
I found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3V4gY6H140
someone on his comments said connect the ps3 or ps3 slim to the receiver and hold 5 seconds the power button because the ps3 send the to all connections video and audio
