I'm looking for a new AVR considering both HK and Denon. I currently have an HK AVR 635 and never really been very pleased sound. I'm now considering a Denon 2312 and just curious what people think of the sound quality (brightness/harshness/warmth) of Denon vs HK. My speakers are Klipsch RB.

What is your basis for the dislike of the HK .. ?? What have you compared it to .. ??

I've owned both brands. Denon is my choice and what I own now. Not being an audio expert all I can say is the Denon's audio is full bodied.

I have only had my HK. Sounds flat. My Benz also has a Harmon Kardon system and it is marginal at best.

The new Denon models are due for announcement April/May time frame.

Personally I think Harmon Karmon receiver line appearance is a bit old looking, compared to other brands. But tastes vary.

I also found the Denon line very neutral sounding, which won't exaggerate speakers that are a bit bright such as Klipsch speakers.

And yes the comparison of EZSet/EQ™ equalization versus Audyssey MultEQ XT.

Thank u. Exactly what I am looking for. Something to neutralize the Klipsch a little and give more fullness. Any thoughts to Marantz SR line? They seem to duplicate the Fenon line.

I run my Denon with Paradigm monitors which are definitely more "forward", not near as harsh as Klipsch though. I am quite pleased with the sound. Audyssey XT does a phenomenal job of taming the high end. I have owned both H/K and Denon, Yamaha and Onkyo and Denon is by far my favorite. But I am now a huge fan of Audyssey and won't consider a receiver without it.

D&M is having a product showcase for new models on May 29th as a FYI. The Marantz line is marketed a bit more to the audio buff, where as Denon seems to be more for both audio/video. I would say Marantz tend to be still neutral but a slight bit towards warm side IMHO. Feature wise Denon offers more then Marantz initially, but since they are introducing these models about the same timeframe, anyone's guess.
