Hi guys.

I am looking to change my receiver. My old Denon 3805 is a little outdated without HDMI. I love the receiver, but I need that feature.

I moved from a house to a townhouse, so I am not running full surround anymore, so I dont think I need anything as good as the 3805. Probably going to look into a high quality soundbar eventually. (Currently running two tower speakers and a kef reference center channel)

Main features I am looking for is HDMI, Ipod feature, reliable, sounds decent,. Bonuses would be 3d, music streaming for Pandora etc.

I am really lost at entry level products. I dont want junk and will pay a couple dollars more for a better product and one that is more 'future' proof. But the lower cost the better, I dont even mind last year or two's models.

So. I have been looking at the Yamaha's and the Onyko. have seen some issues with the Onyko on this forum that leaves me concerned.

Some models that I have been researching

Onyko 509
Yamaha Rx 373
Yamaha 471/571/671
and looking at sony/pioneer/etc

Any help would be appreciated.

The Yam 373 looks good, but seems to be the lowest end model with the features. Would I be better off buying for the same price the older Yam rxv571 or paying more and getting the rxv671? Or go the other way and save money and get the 371?

I am probably missing key models and brands I should be looking into.
thanks!!!

The denon avr-1912 is a good one to start out with for your price range.

Denon AVR-1912. Shop around.

That's from a Pio owner, too. Pio has more diverse inputs. If all you care about is HDMI, go Denon.

Call J&R music and ask about the Denon 2112CI. Has all the features you are wanting and they sold me one for $439. Little over your budget but well worth it IMO.

That Denon 1912 is at the top of what I would like to spend, but I will look into it...I love the quality and use I have gotten out of my 3805.

I guess I should also figure into the purchase how much I will be able to get back by finding a buyer for my 3805. Do you think getting $150-200 for that would be difficult?

eBay shows the asking price on the 3805 as near $300 so $150-$200 should be fairly easy. The new XX13 models will be released soon with the 1613 being the lowest model with networking and Audyssey MultEQ. Currently the 2112CI is the best model at it's price point.

I have been doing more research tonight on the different models.

Denon 1912- looks good, can get it from Crutchfield on sale shipped. Has Airplay and wifi.

Concern- it doesnt look like it has component output. My tv only has component, no hdmi. I will replace down the road, but not looking for that expense now.

Also looking into

Yamaha rxv671
Onkyo 609

Tough because all 3 are within $30 of each other

If your TV doesn't have hdmi then the Denon 1912 would be a bad choice for you.

You might want to go with the Onkyo.

Although you would need to add an HDMI-->component converter, the 1912 would be your best choice as it is the only one that can EQ the subwoofer.

Recently upgraded from a 2105 and snagged a Denon 2809 for $345 - HDMI 1.3a, Audessy and it has analog pre-outs for adding separate power amp(s) down the road when I have a little extra cash. Nothing in the price range will offer you that. Add an Apple TV or Roku for your streaming needs.

Although it definitely sounds like you are trying to shrink your footprint rather than grow it with a few power amps

I've had the 989 for over 3 years now, great receiver, no complaints. Comes with Audyssey MultiEQ XT. Basically same receiver as the 2809 with a different remote.

If you're willing to go to $440, the Marantz 5005 might meet your needs.
http://www.accessories4less.com/make...eceiver/1.html

3 component inputs, 1 out.

Be warned that no receiver converts HDMI down to component video. But if all your devices are component video or below this receiver might be good for you. And when you finally go to HDMI on your TV, the 5005 will upconvert all your analog video to HDMI.
