I would buy the 4311 now or wait a bit to see if the prices will come close to $1K. If the 4520 will list for $2500 the best one might do is $2k (maybe) when it first becomes available. So you can buy the 4311 now and enjoy it or wait and pay close to double for the 4520. I doubt the 4520 will offer features or improved SQ that will be twice as good as the 4311. If you buy the 4311 now you can keep it for a year or so then wait for the 4520 to come down in price as the 4311 is now. I have an Onkyo 886 that has served me well and I passed on the 5507 and the 5508. But I'm now itching to have XT32 so the Denon 3313 is on my radar.

I'm in the same boat that others in this forum. I've been keeping an eye on the 4311 but at the same time curious to see what the replacement will do. It seems that it will have a retail cost of 500-800 extra (at least in Canada) and according to my dealer they are not expecting to have a sale on current 4311 due to inventory is not that high.

I personally think that the difference will be more towards the 4K hype and cosmetics (for example I saw for brief period of time the new models -entry ones- and I notice they are dropping the left knob). I was looking at Marantz AV7005/ but for sure they are not chaging that one for this yr/ NAD T187 suppose to sound really good but read a lot of forums complainint about HDMI adn Rotel RSP-1572 with the same issues as NAD with HDMI.

that's why I'll be in a short period of time a 4311 owner and use it as pre-amp; once I sell my Pioneer.

Thanks to most of you for the continued replies. It appears that by the posts here and other threads along with the PM's that I have received that several are on the same boat that I am. I will make a decision by the end of May or so, which is the time that my replacement speakers will arrive.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Denon 1611 Blue Ray to go with the 4311, or should I consider something else on the same price range?

as noted earlier, i would purchase the oppo 93...

i think it's unlikely that many are in the "i'm going to wait and it gets to $799 boat" with you...

i also think it's very likely that those who are seriously considering even looking at a 4520 aren't particularly price sensitive... early adoptors rarely are...

Chris, my dear friend, I never saw your post about the Oppo 93. I have only recently heard or become aware of this brand. Is Oppo made by Oppo themselves, and how new is the brand? Last, but not least, I am not waiting for the price to particularly drop to $799.00, which you are probably correct, as it may never happen again. I said multiple times that I am in no rush to make a decision (and I do not have to explain myself to you, or do I?), as I have some time on my hands and do not need to make one immediately. I would appreciate if you could drop your particular "fixation" with me, as you are the only one that is making a point to dissect every post that I make, and apparantly getting a kick out of it with your sarcasm, as if you had nothing else to do in your spare time. Either that, or you took a liking towards me, and I am reading your posts incorrectly or in a sensitive manner? You tell me. Several others have pointed out that they are waiting for another possiblle price drop on the 4311 and to make a decision based upon the features of the 4520, so YES, there are others in the same boat as I am.

I would really consider the Oppo 93, it really is THE player for any HT enthusiast. I sold and set up a Denon 4311 with a Denon 2012 Blu-ray (step up from th ae 1611) for a client last fall and the player did not impress me like I had expected. I was expcting to be really wowed with this player on the 65" sony xbr.
I printed and read the manual for the Oppo and the 2012, and everything told me the Oppo was it. I hope to be able to get an oppo this year myself.

This is the 4k version of sound. The new Lexicon I believe is implimenting a version of this idea. SRS was working on this for a few years. I have heard that line array speakers were being used with this technology as well. The Japanese have been working on this with a 22 speaker speaker configuation or more for several years. Scott Wilkenson of the podcast "Home Theater Geeks" (Twit network) has done several podcasts related to this subject with the respective movers and shakers that are creating this technology. Gary Reber also should receive some credit as well because this was written about in Widescreen Review more than a decade ago. If this is the first time you ever heard about, then shame on you! That is why US Americans are second class to the Japanese in getting access to these new technologies in their products.

I would scoop the 4311 up when they start going on sale soon. It's a really nice unit now with all of the firmware updates addressing some of its earlier issues. Th fact it has xt32 and can be upgraded to pro is even a bigger bonus.

Thanks guys. I will look into the Oppo 93 I am an amateur to HT, and had actually never heard of the brand, but will look into it now. On a side note, I have had a Denon DVD from 2005 and never had any issues with it, abeit it was not used very often

It started out as $1999, but after the earthquake in Japan last year, in June 2011 was raised to $2099 along with an MSRP increase of the 1912 through 3312CI models.

that's why I'm getting closer to complete my purchase of the 4311; it has hold its value and you might see small discount on the price for left units but doubt it will be like a 50% off.

does anyone here that owns it use it as a pre/pro????

Interesting article about fiber - with such small numbers 4k isn't coming to your living room anytime soon. Consider yourself lucky to have it fiber available to you.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bruce-...b_1434583.html

With only 8 million AT&T and Verizon customers out of 120 million currently served by fiber, I think you are dreaming (sorry KidHorn) if you expect to see networks and other providers jump on the 4k bandwagon by 2015 with such a significant investment required for such a small market - look at how long HD took and there is still a lot of content not even available in HD.

At the same time expansion of these fiber has been put on hold by both. There is no way expansion of fiber will occur quickly enough to see 4k by 2020 delivered by cable and others. DirecTV and Dish don't have the capacity to offer 4k - can you say HD and compression - but hey 120 channels (cough) out of 400 are in HD? Computer monitors maybe, but at 17" to 24" will it really matter? Blu-ray market - doubtful - all types of issues there even though I like my movies on discs.

This all doesn't change my recommendation to the thread starter to buy a 4311 - buying a receiver for 4k scaling - silly.

4k is all about marketing. Do you think Joe Consumer really understands that their 1080P TV can't take advantage of 4k upscaling? Just a new feature that Sony, Onkyo and others promote on the less informed. Can only imagine what the Best Buy salesperson says when asked about the 4k scaling and if its needed. When the TVs come out where will the content be???

4g LTE network infrastructure has moved faster then fiber. Verizon and AT&T fiber only have so much coverage area allotted to them because of competing cable companies, deregulation and monopolies.

I had verizon fiber installed in 2006 when it came out. I was the only city at the time, neighboring cities were fighting it out with time Warner cable and Verizon. I'm sure it's the same in other areas across the us. Fiber is just slow moving because of numerous hurdles.

In San Diego, at least cox cable has rolled out docsis 3.0 which speed wise, is on pair with fiber.

Until fiber and high speed coax is available everywhere, 4k transmission is going to be be very expensive during rollout and slow moving.

Does anyone know if the 4311 is still being produced, and if so when will the production cease, and if it has ceised, when did it do so? I would like to order a late production model to ensure that it includes all of the latest firware upgrades, such as AirPlay, etc...

Does anyone know how this compares with the new Pioneer Elite SC-68? I know that the Pioneer does not have as advanced setting like the XT-32 and sub EQ as well, but what about the amplification section? The SC68 appears to put out more power evenly to all channels without the usual drop off with the new class D3 amplifier? It appears that the Pioneer is also 4K ready for the future.

even if you got one made the very first week, you'd just update the firmware and upgrade to airplay... not sure whatyour concern is there...

i doubt there's any material difference in the amplification sections in real world use...

4k is a meaningless bulletpoint...

the "big" difference between the units is in the bass management and in the room correction... imo/ime (and i have extensive experience with both the pio method and the denon method), that "big" difference is rather significant...

Thanks Chris. I am assuming that the "Big" difference in calibration is in favor of the Denon, correct? The Yamaha 3010 Also appears to be a good contender, but like the Pioneer it too does not have audessey calibration, but it does have their own.
