but this isn't a luxurious home theater room. This is a family room, so the decorating aspect of it probably wont pass the wife...

It could also support 11 channel neoX and have 11 internal amps. Plus have 4 subwoofer outputs. None of which are huge IMO. I'm generally in agreement with you.

If you read the article, you'll note the test was done in a "family room" setup and not a "luxurious home theater room". The point being that most wives would think that adding another sub would result in more boomy bass rather than smoother bass.

For some the issues is likely more "there's no way you are putting another large box in this room" and relatedly "I don't care if it'll sound better / less boomy / 'other sound word' I don't care about".

And by some, I mean me.

I am in need of a AVR..

I have 2 Martin Logan Motion 12s and 4 Martin Logan Motion 10s and 2 Dynamo 500 subwoofers..

Do you think I would be better off going with a 4311 or a 3311 or 3312 and justting a emotiva 3 channel for my lrc?

Not only is the 4311CI a level above the 33XX series, but it can power 4-ohm speakers without issue as well.

Upon reading the 4311 owners manual, it seems that if you want to use a combination of the in-built amp and the preouts, you MUST use the built in power amp for 9 channels and an external
amplifier for the two fronts. I already have a 7-channel external power amp, would like to use only 4 of the Denon's channels. It seems that this is not possible. Am I correct?

Thank you

You can use any combination of powered vs. pre-outs, rather you are required to at a minimum externally power the FL/FR or FHL/FHR to expand to 11.2.
