I don't care at all for the bells and whistles, I just want the better internals and audio stage. I'm mostly afraid of taking an audio hit for music...

I remember back before I got the 3802, I picked up an 1802. I was impressed, but a buddy who worked at 6th Ave called me a few days later and told me he could get me a smoking deal on the 3802. I returned the 1802 and got the 3802. The difference especially with music was night and day. Wasn't even close. Could be the fact that my speakers are 4 ohms and need the extra current, so you see what I'm afraid of. I live in jersey and have a PC Richards, best buy, and expo pretty much on top of each other. Going to hit them all later and see what they have.

Not much input to give but I have to say....that 3802 is a FANTASTIC receiver!! I auditioned that one years ago against the Yamaha Rx-V2200 and they were neck and neck....I went with Yamaha due to brand loyalty but that Denon was GREAT! Back then those 2 receivers were pretty much the best around for under $1,200. There were a BILLION debates on here between those 2.

A word of advice....if you listen to a lot of music a lower end receiver WILL NOT reproduce the sound that you already have. My advice is to save your pennies and get into the 4xxx series. I replaced my Yamaha this year to move up to HDMI and went with an Onkyo 809. While I love the unit and it is a beast with a TON of bells and whistles that I will never use....and is FANTASTIC with HT.....it still is not up to par with my older Yamaha or the 3802......

Think I paid like 5 for the 1802 and my friend got me the 3802 for 750. It was a no brainer at the time.

@ new-funny you say that because I was down to the Yamaha and denon at the end. I was coming from a Yamaha that I liked, but the denon had a warmth that to my ear the Yamaha was lacking...

Please post your opinions on here after you do try out one of these models after audyssey has been run on one of these newer models.

I am in a situation trying to figure out what receiver I want. I know I want HDMI, MultEQ XT(or similar quality), good sound quality, and pre-outs I am looking at used since I am on a budget.

I would really like to know how these new units fare vs the higher end older models in SQ.

I'm beginning to think about a 1712 for movies and my 3802 for music. So maybe back to 2 sets of speaker wire behind the mains. I'll let you guys know. Advice still appreciated. Thanks

I am leaving that option open too. No way in hell I'm getting rid of the 3802, worse case scenario the 3802 will go to the garage for music out there when I'm working and pump the yard. I just hope the 1712 will be good for both.

3312ci is 8 clams shipped EE right now. NIB, no call, no code. Unconfirmed reports on slickdeals are a little under that by picking up the phone .

From all I've heard the 3312 won't stack up either, so i just ordered a 1712 and 2 short 1.4 HDMI cables from amazon next day for like 325. Worst case I'll send it back. I'll just use the 3802 for music and the new one for movies if it works out. I'll let you guys know over the weekend. Thanks

Probably should have sprung for the AVR-4311CI for ~$1300. That is the most similar replacement in amp capabilities for the 3802.

To save a g, getting up occasionally to swap wires isn't a big deal, but we'll see. If i don't like it I may go that route. I'll know this weekend so I should still have time to catch that sale ...

Unfortunately, the cables and connectors on most consumer electronics devices are not designed for frequent plugging and unplugging. It's easy to damage the connections and bend pins. A slight bend to the side sometimes can put enough torque on back-panel connectors to break the connection that's inside the box.

HAHA!! Yeah....I auditioned them both A TON!! I went the Yamaha route because of my brand loyalty and I liked the the slightly more detailed sound it gave.....I tell ya' though, if I knew somebody selling a 3802 I would still probably jusmp on it!

I think you're smart to get the more inexpensive receiver and use the 3802 for music. I use my Onkyo for mostly TV and some movies/music.....but I have a dedicated room with a projector and better speakers that I still use the old Yamaha Rx-v2200 for..... best of both worlds.

Main reason why I went with the Onk instead of Yamaha is that I got it for a LOT less then an equivalent Yammie so I just couldn't justify spending over a grand more....much like you. The Onk is a tank and has a ton of features.....but like I said.......it just doesn't have that same 'uummmpphh' that the Yammie or Denon has....

Oh, OK, that should be OK, I think.

Until you get too annoyed!

When i first bought the 3802, I had spectral seperates that's what I used to do until I got too lazy lol. But back then I was obviously more into 2 Chanel audio. Nowadays I hardly ever do serious listening in the house anymore...
