I thought that this would be applicable for this forum as it seems that only certain receivers will be able to use it.

Predictably, Steve Guttenberg has some comments (link).

Sounds interesting. Any other online music stores offer 5.1 music?
Also reading the announcement they say one will need the onkyo 717 or 818 receivers. Am I to understand that any receivers that can decode true HD no matter the manufacturer will work or will they be using some kind of DRM that works only with onkyo receivers?

It would depend on the receiver having a multi-channel digital path out of the network module, and I think most just have a stereo path. My guess is that the Onkyo TX-NR717 and TX-NR818 are the only AV receivers available today that can support multichannel network or USB audio.

From poking around the Japanse site it appears that these tracks are also available for download in DRM free WAV and FLAC formats.
