"Why, anybody can have a brain. That's a very mediocre commodity. Every pusillanimous creature that crawls on the Earth or slinks through slimy seas has a brain."

How I see it when used by an efffete audiophile in yet another (albeit far more brief) run-on sentence...

"I found the amplifier to be nigh on lifeless, void of substance and with all the testicular power of a eunuch trapped in a harem with an empty vial of Viagra© coupled with the attitude of a pusillanimous schoolboy whipped into submission by his middle school's version of Chaz Bono."

Just noticed this...sorry for not responding earlier.

transparency is simply the state of someone or thing being transparent.

No biggie.

Well, I went back and forth over the final half dozen or so...the more ridiculous ones were in a good battle with some of the more typical (that many times come off just as humorous) and in the end I went with a bit of a hybrid.

And the winner is...

"wooly!!!"

wool·ly also wool·y (wl)
adj. wool·li·er also wool·i·er, wool·li·est also wool·i·est
1.
a. Relating to, consisting of, or covered with wool.
b. Resembling wool.
2.
a. Lacking sharp detail or clarity.
b. Mentally or intellectually disorganized or unclear: woolly thinking.
3. Having the characteristics of the rough, generally lawless atmosphere of the American frontier: wild and woolly.

I will admit I laughed out loud the first time it popped up as the imagery that goes along with it (for me anyway) just seemed so par-for-the-course/over the top for audio "critiquing".

Yeah, the last thing anyone needs is a woolly amplifier stripping their music of all fine detail.

yikes.

Plus it just looks and sounds bada$$.

Congratulations to our winner rwe416 and thanks again to all that participated.

Being that this is AVS, wouldn't it be appropriate to begin to pick apart the selection process - was this done via a DBT

Congrats to the winner.

^ ha ha. Wooly bully.

That, and the idea of a modern amp supplying such a "fuzzed/coarse" texture to sound.

Congrats to the winner.

I nearly put it to a vote, or incorporated others in the decision making process, but I thought it best to just stick to the original plan.

It was VERY close though..."chalkiness" "impertinent" "flaccid" and "buttery" were all in there with a few more.

I DEMAND a recount!

Nice to see mine was in the running, at least. I was also fond of "imperious" and "chalkiness", among a couple others.

Mourning the disappearing usage of the -ly suffix. Words being cut-off before they've had a chance to fully form, left incomplete, with their shoelaces untied and their zippers undone. If I quote your post (or post in your thread) without comment, please check your zipper.

From 6moons, we find the term wooly used in several reviews. For example, here we have it WRT cables.

Quote:
Overall, the Equinox cables offered greater transparency and resolution that was free of sibilance and smearing. While revealing in the top end, they did not come across as bright or lit-up as other cables. Nor were they slow, dark or wooly in the bass.
