They explain it on Onkyo's site. It's not an Audyssey rebrand. It is a very crippled minimalistic version that only measures at 1 position and ignores your mains and subs. A MASSIVE step backwards from XT32.

It just brings me to the last page... even though I click on the little arrow. Lower quality here than the Onkyo with the 24 Hz bug

It's working for me. It's about the only thing on the forum that works the way it's supposed to anymore......

Hi, all.... I'm having a problem with my 818 receiver's output. I had something similar happen with my 905b years ago, and don't remember what I did to fix it.

I have a 5.2 surround sound system consisting of Polk Mains and dual SVS subs. I love lots of bass, and the SVS's don't disappoint. The wife and kids went out of town, so I primed myself for a good movie, popped it in, and had *no* bass. None. I checked the level calibrations and founds that very little sound was emanating from my subs. I checked the wiring, and sure enough, one sub cable seemed to have a bad connection. As soon as I unplugged that one sub from my "Y" cable, the other sub sprang to life. Wanting to watch the movie, I decided I would limp along with the one sub and get a new cable today. I exited the level calibration setup and went back tot he movie. STILL no bass. I cycled through every single audio menu (for some reason it was set on "all channel stereo"), but nothing I did brought the sub online.

Any thoughts? Again--the one sub is working perfectly in the audio calibration menu, so why is no signal being sent to it during movie playback? Thanks for any assistance you can give me.

Further proof of what I said.

For those of you that don't realize that AccuEQ is junk compared to XT32, here is a comparison with graphs proving it: http://www.hifi-forum.de/viewthread-101-1645.html

I was going to sell my nr818 for the nr838, but this move by Onkyo will force me to look elsewhere. I might even wait for the 2015 model. Will AccuEQ hinder sales for Onkyo? Only time will tell.

Why are you thinking of selling? This unit ROCKS!

It does rock, but if the nr838 had Audyssey, then I wouldn't hesitate to sell and get the nr838. I guess Dolby Atmos can wait. The nr838 is not even on my radar anymore.

Onkyo is about to send me an TX NR636 to play with for the Sept update to Atmos. should be fun! I hear you on that if the 838 had THX, ISF and Audyssey MultEQ X32 it would be a steal!

anyone have any tips on programming the Harmony One with the 818? I was excited to "upgrade" from a Harmony 700 to a One and it seems like a nightmare to navigate through the touch screen to get to Q setup and the dynamic volume/late night modes.

In fact when I do scroll through and get to setup I can't use the arrow keys to navigate through it. I'm sure there's something I'm doing wrong and there has to be a better way but I've googled around a bit and there doesn't seem to be a quick guide for the one and 818 specifically.

Its been a while since I posted in the 818 thread, my marantz amp took a dump so I plan on using 4 amps in the Onkyo 818 for a while, they will be powering 4 back speakers, 2 are 6 ohm and the other 2 are 4 ohm speakers, has anyone used the 818 to power 4 and 6 ohms speaker together?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I can't seem to figure this out after searching and going through the manual. I'm using all of the HDMI 1-6 inputs on my 818. I need to use HDMI 7 (Assignable) for a new piece of equipment since 1-6 HDMI's are filled, but I don't see how to access the HDMI 7 input on the remote or the front panel of my 818. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Is this even possible?

I have the little brother, the Onk 717. My mains are 8 ohm, center is 4 ohm. The OSD says if ANY of the speakers are 4 ohm, use the 4 Ohm setting. I think the two choices are 4-6 ohm, and 8-16.

Oh yeah, mixing the speakers seems to work seamlessly, no problems, sounds great at all volume levels.

I haven't done it, but I've seen that question answered before, and it is possible.

I think you have to go into the OSD menu and assign it there. I think I saw the solution discussed on the Onkyo.com site in the Forums section.
