Is it possible to get a new metal case for the Marantz AV7701? The top of mine was dented a bit in shipment and UPS is denying the claim even though I insured it. They claim the factory packing is not up to their standards. Sounds like a scam to me.

Definitely call. Opening could void warranty if they're okay with you doing it which I doubt could check eBay for a fpo device

Its out of warranty and I had sold it to someone and it arrived dented. I shipped it in the Marantz supplied packing and box. UPS insurance is a scam. Basically the only packing they will honor is if you pay the store to pack it.

Will your credit card back you up? My authorized purchase DOUBLES my warranty for my 7701. I have a 6 year warranty left on this puppy

I would confirm that with your card issuer as credit cards generally only double the warranty to a maximum of 1 additional year.

thanks JDSMOOTHIE,

I have successfully connected 'ethernet to my 7701 by using two plugin adaptors that run thru the power outlets...pretty cool, cause I was dreading the 50 ft, under-house experience. I bought these on monoprice btw. They are the 1000 Mbps models. Works pretty good! You can pair up to 9 of these btw.....

back OT, JD thanks for the heads-up on the front heights...very cool...now i just need a 2 channel amp and some wire....

Question...Why is the power standby light on my marantz now orange? Is it because of the ethernet cable, or could it be that another zone is on that I'm not aware of? Thanks in advance!

PS...My music is now live on iTunes, Amazon, and every digital music store in the world

Artist Name is Terrence Huntington, album is called 'No App for This'....enjoy

Hey jdsmoothie I have a desperate question/situation here. Last night ALL of the HDMI audio has failed. I have tried everything in my power: Diff Cables, Diff Sources, and even a Soft reset....still to no avail...This is all HDMI-based. I get video, but no audio with HDMI ONLY....every analog source works perfectly (no HDMI involved)....

I've got the 7701 to video 'passthrough'....I'm wondering if it's a colorspace issue that could affect the audio? E.G. 12 bit.

The network has been working fine, but I'm wondering if this could be similar to my old Integra DHC 40.1, where the ethernet is combined with the HDMI board....IN ANY CASE, I would love to watch a movie tonight, and not having a 'silent film'......Any thoughts from anyone would be great! THANKS

Terry

As you've done a "soft reset" with no joy, the next step would be doing a factory reset (p. 173 Owner's manual), although you'll likely want to save the config file to a PC file first. See Web Control (p. 95 Owner's manual).

would doing a factory reset void my warranty? I just bought the thing

Just called AudioAdvisor and they told me to keep it unplugged for about an hour....My idea of a soft 'reset' was about 10-15 minutes....I will see in about an hour....

In any case, this will be resolved

Doing a factory reset will not void the warranty, otherwise the procedure wouldn't be listed in the Owner's manual. No reason to unplug it for more than 10 minutes for a soft reset.

I just got a hold of one for what seemed like a good deal. I liked the idea of 4k pass through. Hope to pick-up some good pointers here...

Thanks in advance!

Note that the AV7701 will only pass a 4k signal that has not been encrypted with HDCP 2.2. Once the new 4k/HDCP 2.2 players are released later this fall, in order to play a new 4k UHD BD, you will need to purchase either a:

(1) Dual HDMI 4k/HDCP 2.2 BDP passing the 4k video directly to the TV from one HDMI output and the HD audio to the AV7701 from the other output. Currently only the AV8802A and the new AV7702MKII (Oct release) will be able to pass a 4k/HDCP 2.2 encrypted signal.

or

(2) HDFury item which will allow passing the signal through the AV7701 --> http://www.hdfury.com/shop/splitters...60-444-600mhz/

Great! Thanks for reporting back. Keep that in mind that whenever the AVR acts up, the soft reset (10 minutes) should generally be the first troubleshooting step as it results in no loss of settings.

With the help of the UPS store that handled my shipment, UPS finally paid on the claim. Unfortunately my Marantz AV7701 will be turned over to them for salvage and/or scrap.

I do have a spare Audyssey mic and instruction CD if someone needs one.

jdsmoothie I am wondering if I can apply front heights, while still utilizing the back surrounds...Is this possible in PLIIz? (how do you even get to PLIIz on the 7701?)
I know that the 7702 has MultEQ XT 32, and wondering if that is the biggest distinguisher between the two models....Thanks for any input

No. The AV7701 can only process 7CH at a time. You can choose either Surround Back or Front Height, but not both as is possible on the 11CH AV7702. You would select the MOVIE or MUSIC buttons to select DD PLIIz if you have height speakers connected. In addition to the more advanced Audyssey MultEQ XT, Sub EQ HT, and LFC, the AV7702 has upgraded HDAM pre-amps, as well as is Atmos capable.
