I'm thinking of selling off my Pio SC-35 and saving up my money to pick up one of the new Yamaha's when they come available later this summer. I've looked at some of the foreign websites that seem to have some info on the RX-A2020/3020 but some of the info gets lost by google translate.

There are a couple of things about it that maybe someone who reads those languages natively may be able to answer. I think on one of the threads it mentions that is has HDMI matrixing so that you can have two independent powered zones feeding from two different HDMI sources. Can anyone confirm this? I also wanted to know if they are including airplay this year.

I searched but couldn't seem to find any threads on the new lineup

I don't beleive these receivers allow you to hear an HDMI source from powered zone 2 speakers. The second matrix output is routed directly to the one of the two HDMI outputs.

How much better is YPAO with RSC, vs regular multi point YPAO? All the A series have RSC now. (wondering if it would be worth upgrading my A800)

You're better off getting a receiver with audyssey xt32 to be honest.

Other then EQing the sub (which I can do myself) what advantage does audyssey have over YPAO? I really like Yamaha's quality compared to the brands using audyssey.

Ypao is rsc can only measure 8 positions whereas xt32 can go up to 32 if you upgrade to pro. It has much better sub eqing abilities when crossing your speakers over at 80hz.

Ypao is said to be better than audyssey xt.. however xt32 breaks away by applying a lot more filters and getting the curve corrected. Ypao struggles with bass correction below 30hz as well. XT32 allows does more provisioning to filters on the lfe channels if you set your speakers to 80hz. Audyssey is easier to work with than ypao from my own experience.

XT32 does a damn fine job eqing two subs as well.

Yamaha make nice avr's but seem to be falling short with ypao. They are getting lazy like pioneer is and they really need to start addressing beefing up ypao if they plan to stick around in this market. I honestly can't recommend a 20/3020 avr over a Denon 4311.

I have a 3010 and wish I got the 4311 now.

The yamaha website says that the second HDMI is for "zone B". They make the distinction between zone 2/3 and zone B. that sucks.

So are there any receivers out there at all that will do powered zone 2 with HDMI?

We'll have to wait until the 2012 AV receivers with martrix switches are all released and the manuals are availble, but I believe the answer is no. To implement properly it would require a fair bit of extra hardware, a second HDMI decoder, a second or more powerful DSP to handle HDMI audio codecs and stereo downmixing, and a extra pair of DACs.

Right now all these receivers seem to be doing is a routing one of the matrix switch outputs as normal through the receiver's normal audio/visual processing, and the other directly to the one of HDMI outs on the back.

Well Duhh IMHO...Why pay EXTRA on an already over-priced (and over-taxed) Sirius sub for your receiver when there is Pandora?

Be careful, generally Yamaha won't honor the warranty depending on the seller on amazon.

According to the yamaha customer service rep, the RX-A3020 will do a powered zone 2 via HDMI. If you look at the page for the 3020 on the yamaha website

http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio-visual/aventage/rx-a3020_black_u/?mode=model#tag641

it does give the impression that "zone 4" can run powered speakers and send video via HDMI.

Yah, I'm not sure the customer service rep is any position to really know at this point.

I'm not sure what you're refering to with that link, but look at the section marked "Multi-zone HDMI Output Provides Different AV Sources in Two Rooms" on the Features tab of that page. The two diagrams imply that the second room is connected using HDMI cables, not by speaker cables. In the first picture the "Audio/Visual (HDMI)" connection goes to a TV, in the second it goes to a second receiver that drives a 5.1 surround system. The powered zone 2/3 speaker terminals can not be normally connected to a TV, and cannot drive an entire set of 5.1 surround speakers.

If you say so. That feature, however, is conpsicuously absent from the specifications listed on Yamaha's web site. It only mentions the HDMI zone output, not the ability to use HDMI as a source for the zone 2 speaker terminals or pre-outs. I'm going to remain skeptical until I see the manuals or something more concrete from Yamaha.

Unless of course you're talking about Party Mode, which allows the same HDMI source to be heard in zone 2 and 3 as well the main zone. That feature has been supported by Yahama receivers for a couple of years now.

At 1:51 in this video from Yamaha it states the HDMI Zone 2 audio capability. 2 different sources can be played with Zone 2 being 2 channel.

So if the new models all have Airplay, is there an additional cost with Apple to activate/use it? I obviously have no idea how it works... I'm thinking about bumping up to the RX A820 from my current RX A700.
Thanks.

Yah, it's still only talking about the HDMI output. It doesn't say anything about the ability to hear an independent HDMI source through the zone 2 speaker terminals or pre-outs.

It's included in the price of the receiver, but something like an Apple TV would be a much cheaper upgrade than getting an entirely new reciever.

Hi All, The Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A3020 will send audio from HDMI sources via the Powered output if the Zone 2 is set with 2nd HDMI output - if you set the 2nd HDMI output as Zone 4 then it will not send HDMI source content out via powered Zone 2 outputs. While in Zone 4 mode the HDMI connected source can send only HDMI content and internal content (network) thought to the 2nd HDMI output to be decoded by a HDMI capable TV/AVR/Soundbar/etc. Hope this more sense.
