I wouldn't buy a refurb (comes with only 1 year warranty) without also buying a 3 year extended warranty as replacement of an HDMI board (rare but does happen) can set you back $500.

Marantz SR7007 sound fields ?

I recently upgraded from a Yamaha RX-V2500 non hdmi receiver to a Marantz SR7007 hdmi model. The Yamaha had "pre programmed surround programs" for both audio and video listening. In video mode there were options for different genres "sports/adventure/theatre/etc" in audio there were options for different listening experiences such a Vienna Hall, Jazz room, etc. I can't seem to find anything like this on the Marantz other than the Audessy setup, and pure direct type modes.
What am I missing? Doesnt Marantz have anything like this?

Not like Yamaha, no. Available modes can be selected by pressing/holding the MOVIE/MUSIC/GAME buttons.

Is it true I cannot use Bose 901s with the Marantz SR7007 because the 7007 has no pre-amp out or tape ports? The Bose 901 equalizer needs tape or pre-amp out ports on the receiver.

The SR7007 has a full set of 7.1 main zone pre-outs and 7.1 EXT IN inputs; however using them will disable Audyssey which will likely do a much better EQ job then the Bose EQ. Try it both ways and use the config that you prefer.

Why no SUB on Marantz SR7007 Phono ?

I just bought this receiver and it seems I have one question after another.
I got around today to connecting a turntable. Yes, an analog, old fashioned 33 1/3 rpm turntable. (One of 4 I have)

Anyway,
i got the inputs set up, and LP turntable works.
But ..

my Music sound options are:
Stereo L + R
Multi Channel Stereo which is L + R + C + SR + SL (no Sub)
Virtual which is also L + R + C + SR + SL (no Sub)
PLII Music which is L + R
NEO 6 Music which is L + R + C + SR + SL (no Sub)

My question is
WHY NO SUB?

I have it, it's connected, and it works just fine in TV/DVD/BluRay mode.

jdsmoothie:

I haven't bought the Bose 901s yet... not sure I will. So you think Audyssey will work with the 901s? I don't have any other speakers so the 901s will be my only ones. I heard that the Bose EQ is needed to adjust bass and treble and tune those speakers so they are "just right" but if Audyssey can do that then I don't know why I'd need the Bose EQ.

Thank you!

David

Other than a lot of marketing hype, there are better speakers for 1/2 the price. I'd look at Klipsch and Def Tech.

Funny you should say that. I just listened to a pair of Definitive Technology speakers yesterday and am picking up a pair this weekend to try out with my system. They are more money than the 901s but if they sound good I'm going to go for it.

I find the same thing. I am just in the process of hooking up my new SR7007 and if I play a music CD in my blu-ray, there's no sub either, and it plays only in 2 channel. Hope there's a solution to this.

I often get "format error" message when trying to play files via USB. All files are compatible format. Any ideas?

Fwiw, I absolutely love my new sr7007. Paired with polk rti10's and a polk csa6 center and kef sub and rears, it brings to life the video from the Sony qualia 004 projector.
Maybe I don't know what to listen for, or maybe I'm too old, but I think it's a great setup.
