Thanks jdsmoothie.I will remember this next time it happens.
I rang marantz about it and they said , it is likely to be hdmi handshake , despite all worked before no problem.
I was going to call service centre and book it for repair after having a bad time trying to change settings on both tv and amp , swap cables, i even performed 2 different method of factory reset on amp...and nothing.
Yesterday out of blue moon it had started working again.
Hmm very weird.

HDMI handshake issues can present after a firmware update to either the TV or cable/sat box.

I agree with you , but no updates were introduced before or after . So far it is good .

I have yet another problem :-( .When use spotify through tv and playing playlist or a song everything goes well , but as soon as i hit back (left )button or menu (right )on remote screen goes green and spotify shuts down ( i guess ) and network starts restarting .
All works as it should as long as i dont put tv on and use amp's display to navigate through spotify's menu.
I think i might get all brand new hdmi cables of same brand and see if it helps?

I know you all wondering what speakers I finally chose to replace my 30 year old Bose 501 Series IV! I have a marantz sr7007 and have chose... drum roll...

Paradigm Studio 100s (rosenut color.)

I also have learned that if I bi-wire these speakers to my receiver I could essentially supply more power to them making them (hopefully) sound even better. I will believe that when I hear it!

So I guess I will get these speakers in 10 days or so.

After listening to a good amount of speakers (and raising my budget from $1500 to $4,000!) I finally found speakers that (to me) sounded VERY VERY nice.

I listened to: Definitive Technology, Martin Logan, Bowers & Wilkins, Vienna Accoustics, Magnepan, Liin, and Paradigm.

Many of you here have helped me and I want to also THANK YOU very much!

David

Sorry, but no increase in power by bi-wiring. If you want more power, you'll need to purchase a more powerful external amp (eg. Emotiva XPA-2).

Oops, I mean BI-AMPING, not bi-wiring. ; )

Article here:

Looks like it could degrade the sound. ; (

Not all SACD's are multichannel. Check each SACD to see if it's only 2 channel or multi. Good luck.

Jdsmoothie: the XPA-2 sounds nice but how can I use it with my marantz sr7007?

The SR7007 has a full set of 7.2 main zone pre-outs. Simply connect the FL/FR (in yellow below) to the external amp and connect the FL/FR speakers to the external amp speaker posts.

Ok I know it will work now. I don't fully understand how'd I'd use it day to day when I want to just listen to a music cd then switch to tv/cable or watch a movie etc... Do both relievers stay on together? Is the XPA-2 the main amp for all the sound or just when I select it? Lots to learn.

Thank you!

I have ordered a Denon AVR-X4000 which has not arrived yet. Today I found out about the Marantz SR7007 and I'm now second guessing myself. From reviews I've read, it appears that the Marantz sounds better for movies and especially music. I use to listen to a lot of music until I bought an Onkyo 875 about 6-7 years ago which is OK, but too bright for music compared to my old Pioneer Elite receivers.

I estimate that my system is used 80 % for movies (blu ray, HD dvd, dvd and even laserdisc ) and 20% for music ( cd's, SACD's and iPod). Even at 20%, music sound quality is extremely important to me.
I'm running a 5.1 setup and won't be changing it as my home theater room has no expansion capabilities due to it's size.

Here is the main part of my thread. I know that the Denon has Audyssey MultEQ XT32 and the Marantz has Audyssey MultEQ XT. For both movies and music is there THAT MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE between the XT and XT32 ? I know that sound is subjective to each listener, but just wanted to hear what others think who may have had the opportunity to compare XT to XT32. Also, the Marantz is $200.00 more, but if the Marantz sounds better, that's worth it to me

Here is my equipment :

Panasonic VIERA TC-P60ST60
Onkyo 875 receiver
Oppo BDP-103D blu ray player
Emotiva XPA-3 for the mains and center
Paradigm Studio 100 (mains)
Paradigm CC-590 (center)
Paradigm ADP-390 (surrounds)
SVS PB12 Plus (sub)

Thanks in advance.

The XPA-2 would be used at all times in lieu of the on board FL/FR amps of the SR7007. Mind you, I'm not suggesting adding the XPA-2 will provide any real benefit, just simply indicated it would be required if you felt you wanted more power.

Yup. Stick with the X4000 or consider the SR7008 which is on clearance and also uses XT32.

People tell me I may need more power to drive the Paradigm Studio 100s. Some say to really get the most out of those speakers I'll need more power. I have no idea. Others say the SR7007 will drive them just fine. I was just wondering.

Unless you are hearing distortion due to too high a master volume level, you won't need the XPA-2. Consider putting the money into a 2nd sub instead.

JD,
Thanks for responding to my posting. Isn't the Marantz SR7008 the new model that was recently released ? I know that it also has Audyssey MultEQXT 32 as the Denon X4000. But the Marantz SR7007 has only Audyssey MultEQXT , correct ? Unfortunately I can't afford the SR7008 as it's $1600.00, but the SR7007 is on clearance for $999.00

Is anyone else getting random problems 'waking' their AVR? Every now and again I have to unplug the power cable leave it 60 seconds and then plug it back in to get my AVR to switch on. I've been keeping an eye on this for the past 2 weeks, but there is no pattern, it is completely random.

Ok so you have a great receiver. Great speakers. The next thing is where to find great high quality music? I had a trial at Bowers & Wilkins "Society Of Sound" and it seemed pretty good.

What service do you like and recommend?

Thanks!

What are you using to "wake" the AVR? Remote? Front panel? Web Control? Smart phone app? Try leaving it unplugged for at least 10 minutes and if still no joy, do a microprocessor reset.

Yes, and when I say that I mean I try every method to wake it, nothing works except unplugging it. I'll be trying the reset next time it happens. I was more interested in finding out if this was a known issue with anyone else, but thank you for your reply

I have an issue similar. Lately I cannot turn (wake from standbye) with the remote. I have to use the iPad app or get up and manually wake it using the front button on the receiver.

It could be the batteries in the remote but I don't know.

I am having trouble with my SR7007 receiver and the ipod/usb drive. Until recently, I was able to plug my ipod into the usb port and play it. I get the Marantz logo on my ipod as usual, but it never returns the ipod back to proper functionality so I can play it through my receiver.
Has anyone had this problem and resolved it or can you direct me to a thread where this issue is addressed? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much!

Try unplugging the AVR for 10 minutes. If still no joy, do a microprocessor reset (p. 179 Owner's manual).

Volume Quits

My Marantz SR7007 volume has started to just quit. I can get it to come on if I connect my headphones and than disconnect them. Any ideas?
