Where did my 7.1 go?

I just got my SP3 back from repair. The firmware was updated to the newest version. When it is decoding a 5.1 source it is only outputting 5.1. How do I tell it to output 7.1?

Menu only changes all speakers except for the sub. There is no sub cross over option. If you set to small speakers it defaults to 80hz, I think. Manual even mentions LFE cannot be altered as stated in appendix g, second paragraph, last sentence.

My wife even commented twice about how much better my system sounds. They were being driven two times by Classe's finest.

Sorry for the rant folks. Those speakers he has a really fine sounding speakers. I could guarantee it.
You really need to compare speakers in your own room on the same system.

I have our components on pull-out shelves, so the locking XLR connectors are quite useful. The balanced cables do give you about 3db more gain. I have to agree with David: I doubt that I could hear a difference on a short run. The cables list at $115 for 1 meter, so they weren't outrageous. I appreciate your points on convenience, and a mix & match could be effective, so long as you match levels with the handy SP3 pink noise generator.

Your speakers are very impressive, Dave, and certainly worthy of your excellent electronics. Yours look great, too, rhale.

I've not been active in the forum, as I've been busy with earthquake recovery and finally got our system up and running yesterday. It sounds wonderful, but a friend of mine really wants our Paradigm Reference Signature S8s (he also has our old Apogee Duetta Signatures), so in the next few weeks I'm going to listen to the Model T Signatures from Bryston, as well as the competition.

To all, best wishes for a wonderful holiday season.

RJ
I'm running all Bryson balanced cables on my 14BSST and 6BSST. When I go up to the tweeter, not s sound comes out when on mute. When I bought my cables the price was so much cheaper then now. Great fit and quality!

Nice photo, gbaby! Would you be inclined to tell us a bit about the circumstances when it was taken? Are you holding a document, vinyl, the world's largest CD?

Best,

It defaults to 80 Hz, but you can change the value.

You may be right that it only sets the high pass on the smalls, I'll have to check and get back to you. I thought it set both.

I can set all my subs at the sub if necessary. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks. I was an elected official in 1988, and a friend of mine was the program director of a local radio station, and reqested I give Barry White a proclamation when he came to city hall. At the time Barry White was traveling around trying to re-ignite his career. The impression I got of him is that he was an extremely humble spirit.

Thanks for your commentary, gbaby. He died so young, but it was heartening that he was successful later in his career.

I remember when he pulled up in the limo, all the female workers started screaming. I was trying to be cool with the attitude of what's all the fuss about. But, when he stepped out of the limo, he had a black outfit on, and stuck one leg out and started rising until all 6'6" of him stood next to the limo, then I started screaming, too. He looked quite majestic almost like a Hugh black messiah. As it turned out he was extremely kind and humble. I am a short 5'4" and I had to stand on a crate to keep him from dwarfing me.

And you're immortalized in his songs: . . . gbaby, gbaby, gbaby . . .

Dept of but seriously, folks, the TV show Counting Cars did an episode on tracking down and restoring his car, a 1979 Stutz IV-Porte. His widow Glodean was powerfully emotional, and her love for Barry was palpable. Very touching.

I had to set the subs cut over. No big deal, just need to have frequency sweep and a meter which I have both

The show runs on History Channel (which actually used to run history shows), gbaby. Here's the info:

Counting Cars, Season 1
Searching for Soul
Premiere Date:September 25, 2012
Danny is commissioned by Barry White's estate to find and restore the legendary singer's Stutz IV Porte. Meanwhile, an old pullover visits the shop with a custom job that could teach The Count a lesson.

http://www.history.com/shows/countin...sodes/season-1

They replay these episodes from time to time, so a DVR should be able to capture it.

And speaking of the SP3 . . . we're enjoying Christmas music right now. It's good to have the system back after the Napa earthquake. With all the hype on DSD, Atmos, and the other tech du jour, it's wonderful to listen to music through a fine preamp (and attendant gear) and feel the engagement of the performance. I'm delighted that you're enjoying your BDP-2, gbaby; may you have many years of happy listening.

Best to all for the holidays,

RJ

Rich, I saw the episode last night on Amazon Prime. I remember seeing that vehicle in Ebony magazine when I was a child. I was impressed with it at the time, but on seeing it on Counting Cars, it looked like a Cadilllac Seville with a kit on it. It cost 70k new, but had Barry invested that money at 8% a year, the money would be worth about 1.5 million. I say this because I spent my youth buying depreciating BMWs, and the only thing I have to show for them now are photos of me profiling with them. I guess they were vanity, ego purchases. Now, cars to me are just transportation.

I, too, am enjoying both my SP3 and the BDP-2, and I have not watched a movie or listened to multi-channel sound since discovering the BDP-2. It is my belief that life is about enjoying your senses, and I am thankful that I have my hearing so I can enjoy these toys. Happy Holidays to you, too.
