Need help picking a receiver for a setup i just ordered.

x2 Infinity Primus p363
x2 Infinity Primus p163
x1 Infinity Primus PC351
x1 Klipsch Reference RW-12d

Only thing left is the receiver, room is about 17x17 that opens up in the back to the kitchen, budget about 700 but i can be flexible up to about 900. I don't really have any brand loyalty, and mostly watch movies/tv and play games.

I'm a Denon/Marantz kinda guy so my recommendation will be what I recently purchased, a Marantz SR5007.

I picked it up delivered two-day, NIB from Vann's for $750.00.

Hope the above helps.

I'll look into that one. i've read that the 363 are really 4ohm speakers, so that has me worried a tad i'm not sure if i should be looking for a reciver that suppose 4ohms or just make sure to stay away from the budget ones.

Give Marantz tech a call as the SR5007 has 4 ohm grunt capability. In the meantime, Crutchfield specs the P363's at 8 ohms. confused.gif

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-8eregsA5cZq/p_108P363BK/Infinity-Primus-P363.html

A recommendation, if you can, up the quality of your center channel choice. In my opinion, the most under looked and under respected speaker in a system is the center channel. Some 90% of the sound dialogue goes through the center channel. My opinion, the center channel and the sub are the two most important speakers. Next are the mains and then the surrounds.

A suggestion, build your speaker system by choosing a high quality center channel complimented by a similar quality powered sub; your Klipsch choice in a sub is good. smile.gif If you have to budget, make the mains and the surrounds the pivot point and upgrade the mains and surrounds at a later time and point. Yes, this flies in the face of convention as convention tells us to concentrate on mains first.

And off the wall suggestion, marry a pair of Klipsch RB-61 II's up with a RC-64 II.

FWIW, this forum turned me onto Acoustic Sound Design and they have killer pricing on B-stock and maybe you can work a killer deal with your infinity choices. Also, in my opinion, the SR5007 is an excellent match for your posted choice in speakers.

-

I priced out your speaker choice at $1,600.00. I'm sure with phone calls you can get a better price. Acoustics Sound Design online prices this Klipsch RB-62 II set at $1,500.00 and I'm sure with a phone call, you can get a better price.

I would see what price you could work out for the RB-61 II set and upgrade the center channel to a RC-64 II. Marry these speakers up with a Marantz SR5007 and all you need is a flat screen and a bag of popped microwave popcorn.

As noted in the below thread, the author of the Audioholics article confirms the 363's as being 4-ohm speakers as well has having a 3db lower sensivity rating than the mfr publishes. That said, the thread OP is using a Denon 1712 AVR which he indicates handles the load well as is the case with most AVRs which can handle 4-ohm loads at average volumes (ie. -30db to -20db). It's only when you prefer higher volume listening (eg. movies, music) that a better quality AVR or at the very least one with main zone pre-outs is required.

The Marantz SR5007 has XT32 and is 7.2 capable. confused.gif

We recently purchased the SR5007 from Vann's, delivered UPS two-day, for $750.00. You need to give them a call to get the price. Call around and you might get an even better price.

(Disclosure: I'm a Denon/Marantz kinda guy and know nothing about Onkyo sound quality)

The Onkyo 818 with XT32 would be the better buy over the 5007 which only uses XT, and although the 818 does not have Sub EQ HT as does the 1010, with only 1 sub it won't matter.

Sorry, my error on the 5007 having XT32. I stand corrected on my error. smile.gif

Doing my homework on the TX NR-818, yes, it sounds like an excellent value with an impressive Amp section.

Went with the TX NR-818, maybe a tad more than i was expecting to spend but hopefully will last a while. It also seemed packed with a lot of features.

How much did you pay? And looking forward to you posting your first impressions as to ease of setup and overall sound quality of your new speaker/receiver system.

Thanks for the pricing update. Love Amazon and their Prime two-day shipping.

Congrats on your acquisition as for the extra monies, the TX NR-818 sounds like a screaming good upgrade over the SR5007. Now the waiting begins, like a kid sitting by the doorstep waiting on his secret cereal box decoder ring to arrive in the mail.

Isn't this XT32 (Room calibration) the standard these days on AMPS? Did the SR5007 have this? Also, didn't notice if the Onkyo allows you to use AIRPLAY to stream your itunes music to the receiver.

XT32 is currently the highest level of Audyssey (2EQ, MultEQ, MultEQ XT, MultEQ XT32) and is currently not featured on any Marantz AVRs. Onkyo currently does not feature on board Airplay which can be easily added via an Apple TV or Airport Express.

As a Marantz owner, inconsolably he sobs; Boo, hoo, hoo!
