I'm replacing an Harmon Kardon AVR-254 and have narrowed it down to four receivers
1) HK AVR 2600
2) Denon 2112
3) Yamaha RX V671
4) Marantz 1402/1403
First off let me say that despite the MANY problems of the AVR 254 I really loved the receiver (when it worked right)! We have a pretty basic setup that includes
Panasonic GT30 (60 inch)
Panasonic BD60 Bluray player
WDTV Live (not networked just attached to usb drives)
Xbox 360 & Wii
Cambridge Soundworks 5.1 Home theater speakers (Which I plan on upgrading in the future to possibly a 7.1 setup)
I Would like to eventually stream the WDTV or build an HTPC but that's down the road after I can afford to upgrade the speakers. So out of the selections above could any of you 'Experts' give me some advice on which one to choose and why, or maybe you have an alternative that I maybe missed that would be a good choice. I was hoping to stay under $450.00 with tax and shipping. We are without a backup receiver at the moment so I was hoping to order one soon. I really appreciate any help you can give.
Home theater gladly not designed by ereed or bgtighe23. 65" JS9500, Marantz 7702MKII, Parasound Halo A31, ClassDaudio SDS470 4ch, RBH R56, 4xRBH R55, 2x RBH R5, Hsu VTF 2 MK 3 and VTF 3 for subwoofage, OnStage MS7701B mic stand with boom for improved Audussey XT32 calibrations. Listening space happily treated with 1" OC 703 rigid fiberglass. OPPO 203 or 205 soon.
You don't mention the size of your room. Bear in mind that the Marantz receivers you list have relatively low output power. They work best with efficient speakers in a small room. Their reason for existence is their relatively small size. Since you're replacing a full-sized receiver, I'd suggest the Denon unit.
The 673 and the 2113 can be had at the same price as last year's models when bought from Electronics Expo through Amazon. If you order last year's model they will contact you stating that they are out of stock and will up grade you to the current model with your approval. If you call EE they will also offer you the upgrade at a greatly reduced price although not as low as the one stated on Amazon. I just did this with the 2312/2313. Others have posted, on appropriate threads, about doing this with the 2112 and 671.
