Anybody pick up the Marantz SR6007? I am seriously looking to get this as an upgrade for my old SR7500 AV receiver. I need the legacy 5.1 analogue input and DSD decoding of this model over the older SR6006 and don't need the full power of the higher SR7007.

The Sr6007 won't be released here in Australia till October so still got over a month to wait.

In regards to DSD decoding of the SR6007.

When sending DSD over HDMI signal directly to the SR6007 during SA-CD playback. When DSD Direct is selected does it still need to convert the DSD signal to PCM before decoding to Analog and output to the speakers or is the signal converted directly to Analogue without any PCM conversion and intermediate processing?

First to PCM and then to analog, although there is no Audyssey processing on DSD Direct which is why most prefer to let the player decimate to PCM and then the AVR can apply Audyssey.

Do not assume sending DSD to AVR for decoding (via PCM or direct) is always the best solution or better than sending PCM. Read the following about the potential pitfalls:

Audiosceptics accept audio trials using 25 people. A recent Oxford study with over 353,000 patient records from 639 separate clinical trials shows for every 1,000 people taking diclofenac or ibuprofen there would be 3 additional heart attacks, 4 more cases of heart failure and 1 death every year.

Thanks for the reply and links. I did a bit more research here and found some good information.

My situation is that I have two SACD players here.

1) Older Pioneer universal SA-CD and DVD-Audio player. Which uses the 6 Analog RCA out to connect and playback sa-cd and dvd-audio. Which I would still like to keep for playing back dvd-audio. And a

2) Sony BDP-s370 blu-ray player that can send DSD over HDMI and from reading these forums high resolution PCM at 176.4 kHz via HDMI to the AV receiver.

My Current AV receiver is approaching 9 years old and is In need of an upgrade. It currently does not support HDMI, Lossless Audio, DSD decoding or many of the other features that come with a new AV receivers.

If I was to upgrade to the a new AV receiver that does DSD decoding for the SACD player. What would be the best way to set the blu-ray player up for sa-cd playback?

DSD DIRECT, although as noted, you're likely better served letting the BDP do the decoding and pass it as PCM so Audyssey can be used.

Actually in the Sony it's DSD Output Mode: On.

Still insist on sending DSD to AVR for decoding after what I tried to say? banging my head...frown.gif

Thanks. Looks like outputting DSD over HDMI, and letting the AV receiver do all the processing is the way to go.
