This is the tricky part, to find out the right model that will do every thing I need it to do but not pay for features that I don't need. I won't be using any analog inputs at all. It will only be used for movies & some games that my kids may play. I'll have an Oppo 103 & 1st gen PS3 for my kids to use on a 148" 235:1 screen. I'm not even going to have DirecTV hooked up in this room as I will still have it in my smaller room with my 106" 16x9 screen.

I went with the Yamaha RX-A 3020 Just love that Yamaha sound.. price could not be beat.. $1500+$100 5 year warranty (didn't care) plus tax,, from authorized dealer store.. Pioneer Elite is no longer sold on Amazon.. nor it's a authorized dealer for the Elite series.. you may run into warranty issues... Amazon only sells the non-elite series..

Yes, but there are Amazon-affiliated sellers of the Elite and Best Buy is price-matching them. You can get sizeable discounts this way and you're still buying from an authorized dealer. I got over 20% off the price of my SC-68.

This would be a great deal if they would price match the Pioneer Elite. I can get a Yamaha 3020 for dealer cost from the owner of a shop that I know but he doesn't have the Pioneer Elite receivers.

This is good to know what you selected when you could pick any receiver!

Dr Z - would you mind PM'ing the dealer info to me? I've seen the 3020 for about that price on eBay from non-authorized dealers, would love to buy with a "real" warranty. Thanks!

Interesting to see what people choose here. I am in a similar place deciding between the Onkyo 1010, Elite 67, or Yamaha 2020.

NHT speakers, Denon 4520, Panasonic 65VT50

Well i stopped by Best Buy today & found that they had the Pioneer SC-65 on sale for $999! I've been torn between the Pioneer SC-65, SC-67 & Yamaha 3020. All I wanted was a high power 9.1 receiver & I'm not going to bi-amp anything or use multiple zones so they will all fit what I need. I was just shocked at the price so I jumped on one! One piece closer to my room being done. I should have the painting done tomorrow & then to build the riser for the back row of chairs.

Question for everyone.....is getting an extended warranty worth it on a receiver? I haven't had a Pioneer receiver in many years since I owned the first one that Pioneer produced that had AC3 for my DD Laserdisc player. I've never had one but BB offered me a 4 year warranty for $125. Comments?

Generally, extended warranties are poor investments. Most modern electronics will fail early (and within the manufacturer's warranty period) if there are defects or else perform for whatever the designed life is. Receivers, in general, are pretty reliable and should last for many years. The only time I would consider an extended warranty is when there is considerable totally new and unproven technology in a product. If your peace of mind requires an extended warranty, there are aftermarket ones available on-line or from Costco that are much cheaper. Just be sure that with any extended warranty you understand exactly what it does and doesn't cover. Many extended warranties have many, complicated loopholes that end up giving you very little.

AVAL,

I am considering the SC-67 or 68 and the only thing standing in the way is the Yamaha 3020.... I want clear and incredible sound for movies and tv and music secondary.... not even really care too much about music.

Do you think the Pioneers are superior to the Yamaha aventage for surround in movies and TV?

I was hoping to get your opinion.

Thanks

If you get a yamaha A3020, you don't need an extended warranty. Yamaha Canada offers it with 4 year warranty.
