This only happens with Airplay.

Usually indicative of a bad HDMI cable. Try replacing the cable from the AVR to the TV or swapping to another input on the TV.

How is the refurbished 4520 faulty? Just wondering? Is it exhibiting a similar problem to your original issue?
Did this get sent to a authorized service center or one of their super service centers?

The amp will not output any bass information to left and right speakers
I have done extensive tests
I know what this amp sounds like when it works
I have changed out speakers
Tested them on a different amp to be fine
All previous problems have been solved with this refurbished amp
Only to get new problems
The calibration set up wants to recognise my full range speakers as small
Have turned audussey off completely and done manual settings for crossovers
Nothing makes the speakers give out bass info
It is like it is stuck at 80 hertz
I have spoken to Denon and they now are not returning my calls or email. This refurbished amp has not been serviced since i have had it and noticed these priblems

You do know in an ideal Audyssey set up, you would want to manually set your full range (front) speakers to small right anyway? More importantly though than that is what crossover Audyssey is setting for your Front speakers? If it's way up high like 120-150Hz, then you more than likely have a speaker based issue. I had an issue recently all due to the bass compensation setting in my fronts being set to wrong mode for my room. You probably want to check speaker placements if you haven't already and mic position - which is of course crucial for correct measurement. Lastly, just make sure there isn't anything obviously wrong with your room that could be throwing off the automated measurements.

I just got my unit repaired - as predicted by some Denon experts here, the board connectors were poorly attached (prior to the repair).

I have split the same cd with every processing thing turned off and in pure stereo mode no sub , and played two right tracks one with 4520ci and one with an old denon amp, the woofer did not move on the 4520ci, the other amp and speaker played bass from pink floyd
I have extensive set up in the same room when i had the old 4520ci and the sound is not the same
In manual set up with the crossover set to full range the woofer should move
Have done the same test with a old LP

I've tried searching for my answer but had no luck, so I'm just gonna ask here now.

What is the difference between the Listening/Surround Modes (Movie, Music & Game)?
For example, what makes DTS Neo: X in Movie mode different from DTS Neo: X in Game mode?
I understand one is for movies, and the other for games, but exactly is the difference? With the delay in switching modes, I can't trust my ears/brain (not that they were trustworthy to begin with :P)

I can kind of tell the difference between Music and the other two, just slightly on how sound pans/transitions between speakers. But then again it could be a placebo, so I'd like to find out.

Movie mode tends to focus the dialogue more towards the center speaker while Music mode focuses it towards the FL/FR speakers and AFAIK, Game mode is supposed to emphasize the surrounds a little more, but doubt that anyone really uses that mode.

HI everyone,

I have searched through threads and haven't figured out what I am doing wrong. I bought some wireless outdoor speakers for use on my balcony. The speakers and wirelss transmitter work fine if I plug it into my iPhone.

If I plug it into the Zone 2 pre-outs using an RCA to mini cable, I can't get anything to work. I am playing off an analog source and I hit the Zone 2 button to have it say "ZONE 2 ON" but nothing. Is there something basic I am missing?

I noticed it can be finicky with source selection for Zone 2. Once in a while I had to switch the source and then switch back.

When trying to troubleshoot a Zone 2 source, the first step is to get it working in the main zone. Once accomplished, and knowing that the source is connected with an analog cable, the issue would not likely be either the source or the AVR.

Hi All

I am after some help on the best way to connect a new TV to my 4520.
Currently have Panasonic 46" Plasma ( TH-46PZ800A), which I have been using for many years, and now replacing it with one of the last generation of Panasonic Plasma TV's - 60" TH-P60ST60A.
My main question is regarding the use of the HDMI ARC option for Audio using the new TV, is it better than using the current Digital Audio out from my current TV?
Are there any tips or tricks in using the HDMI ARC function with this combination?

Any help appreciated

Often times the HDMI(ARC) connection is a bigger headache then it's worth as the AVR will always switch to the TV input when powered on, not to mention in some cases can only pass PCM 2.0 vs. DD 5.1 using the optical audio output connection so just depends on the capability of the TV as to which way to go.

Best way is to run everything to the avr and a single hdmi cable to the tv

I agree that ARC is a PITA, and I use the optical out for TV audio. However, I seem to only get two-channel audio this way. It's not a big deal for me, since I rarely use the TV tuner. All my TV comes from either a DirecTV DVR, or an Apple TV, both of which deliver 5.1 over HDMI.

I turn all that auto switching off. When I was listening to my DVD player I would turn off the TV and it would shut off the DVD.

Thanks for the feedback, looks like I will stick with the existing Optical Audio out, as per current configuration. Free to Air TV here in Australia, has virtually no 5.1 audio anyway, so not missing out on much, mainly trying to eliminate the extra cable.

Once again thanks for the replies, looking forward to the new plasma and trying out some favourite blu-rays.

BBB is going to net you absolutely nothing. My advice would be to be polite but firm. Keep asking to be escalated w/o getting nasty about it. Keep everything documented. Then if that doesn't work, try social media and hope some for the best. Come up with something witty, hope it goes somewhat viral (not world wide, obviously) but ask all your relatives for help.

Best of luck!

Thanks,
Hansang

So you're saying (btw you"re extremely hard to follow with your odd list like and somewhat abrupt posts), that you've tried A/B testing the preout output into your old amp(feeding into your speakers) and then compared it to the speaker level output on the 4520? That would be an easy way to hear missing frequencies, especially bass. You never said what your configuration is other than you're listening to cd's. It sounds like your using pure 2ch stereo with the 4520, in which case it should be very easy to ensure everything is set up for 2 front full range speakers. Also, if so and you are running surround for anything, then I have to question the use of a 4520 for the purpose of 2ch stereo reproduction. The are far better sounding units out there for that purpose in the same price range and under. BTW, Apols if I've read between the lines in thinking your setup is just 2ch, but you haven't mentioned any other speakers thus far.

You can use BubbleUpNP. It will make your Android device appear as a Media Server device (DLNA) on the 4520 where you'll be able to choose which media (located on device, LAN or cloud) to stream. You can try out the main app for free, but it costs $4.69 for the license app to unlock all the features. To get an idea how it would work, you can try out the Cast To UPnP/DLNA for GMusic app...in fact, if you would only ever want to stream GMusic you could just stick to that app (not sure what the cost is). I think the main app gives you a lot more options, especially down the road. There are probably many other apps that do the same thing, but BubbleUpNP is what I've been using (to stream FLAC files to my mobile devices) and I've been pleased with it so far.

You could also go the Chromecast route and just cast it to the receiver, if you're willing to spend a little more for the CC device.

I was having trouble at first with ARC, using the exact same TV. I finally figured out how to get it to work consistently, I was not having much luck at first. I do get 5.1 Dolby Digital from the Vudu app in the TV. I don't use Netflix, so I can't speak on that.
