check out Best Buy's website for their current offer....and you also receive 10% back in reward zone points until the end of this week

To get the 10% in reward zone points you need to use a Best Buy credit card, correct? Which equates to $100 in store certificates? I'm not sure I want to sign up for a credit card for the extra perks as I never shop at Best Buy but this receiver deal is making me want to!

yes and yes

you also cannot select the 18 month financing offer

to me...I have a sales tax rate of 7%....this offer IMO takes care of paying the tax
I shop there often enough and have been an Elite member for years
They typically are higher than the market in price on most of their A/V gear

but when they do a clearance blowout there is nothing like it

they also have free shipping on anything when you reach elite status

I bought some clearance I phone cases the other day that were $1.00 each...free shipping
The two UPS shipments had to have cost more than the $1.00 I paid for the two cases

I would have been able to pick one up locally plus get that 10% back in gift cards plus save several hundred

Oh well. There is nothing I can do about it now.

yes...this change is going to bring the market price down
Best Buy has a large enough national footprint to drive a national market price...and the fact that they actually posted the "in-store" price online helps

I predict Amazon will have the change on their website by noon

there are unauthorized dealers and people selling used ones trying to get more than this price

oh well...

Does this only support 30fps 4k passthru? I ask because I will likely keep this unit for a very long time and would like to upgrade to a 4k projector in the next 2-3 years, mainly for PC gaming. If it's limited to HDMI 1.4 (or whatever is the latest) then maybe I'll need to hold off until receivers get HDMI 2.0 or Displayport.

Right: max of 4K30, and no support for HDCP v2.2.

Unfortunately, no AVR available this year supports both HDCP v2.2 and 4k60 at 18Gbps. (Some support one, some the other.) Maybe next year. And that's assuming 4k video winds up requiring only HDCP v2.2. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if an even more restrictive copy protection scheme winds up being required when 4K video actually becomes readily available.

if you are talking 4K blu ray...I am sure there will be players with 2 outputs...as there have been for years
run one to the AVR, for sound, and one to the projector, for video.

I think we are a ways away from DirectTv and cable with 4K video

I know there are some streaming options coming...that might be the only issue if you are planning on that

Hmmm I saw the Best Buy deal this morning and I'm really conflicted.

I currently own a Pioneer Elite VSX21-TXH. The hdmi switching board had been acting wonky for awhile, I could go a couple days at some time without hdmi out not working properly. It's been working now for awhile surprisingly. I also don't like having only 4 hdmi ports, which at the time seemed like enough, but everyone knows how time has changed.

I have reservations about getting it for three reasons, It's a 2 year old model (But the flagship at the time!) so I'm not sure what nice features I'd be missing (I'm guessing internet related?), Dolby Atmos coming on the horizon, and the lack of 2.0.

The last two I guess I could address my assumptions, Dolby Atmos would first of all need to be on the Blu-rays themselves right? So all of the blu-rays we have bought up until now wouldn't have Atmos, meaning to enjoy a movie like Pacific Rim in Atmos, we'd have to buy the Blu-ray again. Is this correct? I also live in a small apartment, so even if I'd really enjoy having ceiling speakers, I don't know how viable that would be since I couldn't do contruction on the roof. I know Dolby has some kind of upfiring speakers or something they plan on producing that will bounce off the ceiling and give off a similar effect.

For HDMI 2.0, I don't know when I'll get a 4K Sony TV. Right now I have a 65VT60, so I don't know when I'll get he hankering for a 4K TV, and if at that time I'd just get another receiver.

I'm in the same boat. I have an Onkyo TX-SR806 in a 7.1 setup that has some of the dreaded HDMI issues as well as audio handshaking issues with my PS4 (Stereo only on Blu-Ray). Trying to speed read through all of this info to see if it's worth it. I have no Atmos needs for at least a few years (same with 4K projection), so this seems to cover everything I need and then some for the new space I have.

stack the discounts( with the other 10% back in reward points) and its a beautiful thing...

I just grabbed 2 units for shipping and went back for a 3rd and no more shipping and none left within a 100 miles of me.

I will wait a few days for things to settle down and then resell to my clients for the price that Amazon has advertised. I already have one lined up for next week. The other I may keep over my Pioneer SC-77 that I snagged at Best Buy open box for $ 600.00 last week at remodel sale. Decisions Decisions...

Just return to store with receipt in hand, return on paper and have them sell to you again only with the coupon. I do it all the time.

Thanks for the heads up. Not as good as movers coupon and 10% back but still still a great deal. Just ordered another for my brother.

Crazy how they can just drop $ 500.00 like nothing and still make money. This will hurt the little re sellers for sure. I just hit and run my HT consulting. I stock nothing, just jump on good deals and flip when I can for a profit. The actual mom and pop audio stores get destroyed by crap like this.

dont know how profitable it is

at some point though for the big boys its moving inventory

I was talking to one of the Magnolia sales guys a couple of weeks back and he told me they had 80 of these units available in their warehouse that serviced a eastern Missouri/central Illinois metro area

So...with someone buying that many units at a time ...and that was for just one BB warehouse, you have to figure they have the best front( or back end) deal that Denon is offering

but yes...no fun for the Mom and Pop shops

you can go into the BB store and they can locate one for you at another store and have it transferred

You pay there and then the unit shows up at the store, for pick up, in 5-7 days(UPS)

since Amazon has matched they know they have some big competition and will work a little harder to make they get your dollars and not Amazon

like I said before
the market price on this unit just dropped significantly

Some resellers/unauthorized dealers and owners selling used units have an eye opening coming

For sure.. However, most end users hire a guy like me because they really do not have a clue and have never visited a forum in their life. Eventually Amazon will sell out also and the price should stabilize, hopefully back to $1500 or so. I can make a quick grand on the two units I plan to re sell plus the 10% back + movers coupon on one of them + labor. All in all, a good days pay.

good luck to you
I am think of the total percentage in BB and Amazon inventory and how many they are going to blow through is going to change the market price

I see that they are back again and available for shipping...in my area anyway

I feel for the guys that paid $ 2000-2500 just a short time ago. I actually prefer the way the Pioneer SC-77 sounds over the Denon 4520CI. Sound is very subjective. I have been playing with both over the last 2 weeks. I scored some incredible deals at BB with the remodel sale. I do not know which one I will keep once the dust settles. I have 45 days to return anything purchased at BB.

I hear that
but year and after year the asian brands( audio and video) do it to themselves

in an effort to keep you in the buying market almost yearly they consistently come up with features

some breakthough..others not so much
Inevitably though it almost completely drops the market value of the unit that preceded it
Having never been an early adopter...but often a buyer at a huge percentages off at the end of the season, I can tell you it happens almost every year

when 3D came out..Best Buy blew out all non 3D AVR's...70-75% off retail
the non 3D capable higher end Tv's were also blown out
I guess someone in the BB organization said we cant be behind in technology and have to blow the old stuff out
I didnt complain....with some Denon 4310's...Yamaha Z7's...Pioneer Sc25's....Panasonic V10 plasma TV... It was a good holiday that year with keeping some, selling some for a profit and gifting some.
I like the Pioneer's as well and am still rocking a SC37( bought for $500 at BB) that I am really considering replacing with this 4520 deal, for my master bedroom setup

Should I get it for 1k?

I had been looking at purchasing a Pioneer SC-81 or Denon X4100, but with the latest price drop on the 4520CI, it seems stupid to pass it up. I have a 5.1 setup with GoldenEar in-ceiling speakers that I'm currently driving with an old Onkyo TX-SR604. One of the big reasons for me upgrading will be the auto room correction, as well as additional HDMI inputs. I don't have any plans within the next 3+ years to upgrade to a 4k TV (max size of my TV is 60" in the room with a viewing distance of 13'...don't think a 4k TV is really necessary). And I don't think I'll be installing any more speakers over the 5.1 setup. Other than wifi (not needed, have plenty of Cat5e behind the TV), bluetooth, HDMI 2.0 (which doesn't even have HDCP 2.2), and some other miscellaneous extras...is there any reason for me NOT to jump on the 4520CI now? Or do you think I'll be missing out on something not going with the latest and greatest? Thanks in advance!
