It depends what your expectations are and what speakers you will be driving with it...Most consider Audyssey XT-32 to be an upgrade and the ability/rating to drive 4 Ohm speakers to be a plus, as well as you can drive 2 extra channels of speakers with the AVR-4520 (or add a 2 channel amp for an additional 2 more) than your current AVR....Of course a major consideration is do you want to see how Dolby Atmos pans out? The downside would be if everyone who purchases those come back and say it changed the listening dynamic and then you wish you would've waited. My 2 cents..

I've joined the 4520 club finally.

Used the mover coupon so $900.

Some people seem to be debating the purchase, but for me.....

Why I'm happy with my purchase:
1) I'm using a project so 4k is long off
2) I want to drive 11 channels and set up my theater build for this and this unit does that
3) I wanted the Xt32 and bass management
4) I'm running high efficiency speakers so built in amps work fine.
5) Can take HDMI content and send it to zones for audio

Why I thought about not getting it:
1) Atmos, but I figure 3 years away before we see alot of content.
2) Is it a huge upgrade over my 3311? Maybe not for sound of the mains but for bass management and for height and wides I was sold
3) Atmos, but I may see how a cheap Atmos receiver works with a monoprice spitter where I send audio to both units and use the cheap Atmos unit to drive heights only. Maybe a bad idea and it turns out delay is bad or things don't work out that way. 4-5 years down the road I'll upgrade and at $900, I'm okay obsoleting the unit then. I just obsoleted my 3311 after 4 years and it was less than $900 but not that far.

One of the big reasons for me upgrading will be the auto room correction, as well as additional HDMI inputs. I don't have any plans within the next 3+ years to upgrade to a 4k TV (max size of my TV is 60" in the room with a viewing distance of 13'...don't think a 4k TV is really necessary). And I don't think I'll be installing any more speakers over the 5.1 setup. Other than wifi (not needed, have plenty of Cat5e behind the TV), bluetooth, HDMI 2.0 (which doesn't even have HDCP 2.2), and some other miscellaneous extras...is there any reason for me NOT to jump on the 4520CI now? Or do you think I'll be missing out on something not going with the latest and greatest? Thanks in advance!
I see no reason why this would not be $1000 well spent

Would it be worth buying this over the Onkyo-TX-NR818? Essentially all I would gain is the auto Sub EQ aspect of XT32? I have a 5.2 setup with Polk Monitor 75T towers, Polk CS2, and matching rears. I paid $675 for the 818 2 years ago. Let me know what you guys think?

I am looking to consolidate my separates into an AVR. I have Revel Performa2 Speakers in a 7.1 Configuration that are powered by a an Integra DHC 80.3 and Parasound halo amps. Am I delusional in thinking I can get 90% of the home theater performance from a high-end receiver?

Thinking of jumping in on this deal.

I bought an X4000 refurb from Denon Outlet - and used a 20% off coupon to get a great deal. I am still in my return window for the unit. So i am thinking of getting in on this Best Buy deal mostly for the build quality upgrade and the extra two years of warranty. I am using an outboard amp (Sherbourn 7-350) - so the amp upgrade is of little consequence to me.

I understand what is better on the 4520 (based on Batpig's thread for the 2013 units) but are there things that are better on the X4000 (vs the 4520)? In particular - are the network features and GUI as slick, quick and snappy as they are on the X4000?

That question is a debate that will continue forever. I'd be very interested to hear your opinion after you pickup a 4520 and tell us what you think.

My opinion is that for 90%+ of listening, you probably cannot hear a difference...measure, maybe. One day I plan to build speakers that will need more power than an AVR can deliver, but I don't think I'd hear a sonic difference at all...surely not one that would be worth thousands on amps.

Since you already have the amps...pickup the 4520 and report back. I'd love to read all about it, though you've got a pretty nice setup now. Other than gear consolidation, energy/space savings and $$ from selling your current gear, not sure what a 4520 would give you. That Integra does a lot.

Prices at both Best Buy and Amazon are back to what they were prior to the 2 day sale. We're back in business again.

This is only true when using the ALL ZONE STEREO mode to play same HDMI audio in all zones. To play an external source independently to Zone 2/3 you would need an HDMI--> RCA converter.

perhaps

Amazon just simply sold all their remaining inventory
What is left now are marketplace sellers...which could be real, unauthorized or otherwise

from what I can assess....Best Buy did as well
from what I could gather yesterday they sold through all their warehouse inventory( in 3 different dist centers) that service most of the central Midwest
Not sure what levels of inventory they kept in each DC...but as I mentioned earlier one of the Magnolia guys told me they had 80 of them 2 weeks ago in the DC that services greater St Louis/central Illinois
Assuming that same level of stock in other DC's...they sold a "few" units yesterday..LOL

Not sure about other parts of the country and the Best Buy DC's

So...you will likely have to find one in the store
IF you can...you can probably get them to give you yesterday's pricing
or..the pricing may not have changed in store. Other than yesterday their website pricing was far higher that what the in store price anyway

If I have time today I will go in store and try to see if the in store pricing matches the online.
In any case
between Amazon and Best Buy they had to have sold hundreds..if not thousands of these units yesterday

This is same deal as when they both did the blowout on the Panasonic Plasma TV's back in January

At that time...if Best Buy had store inventory they would still honor the price
if they didn't you were SOL because there were no more

that is likely the case here as well

personally..$500 more than yesterday would not interest me

No, as only the 2014 models have built-in Bluetooth. However, you can add a 3rd party Bluetooth receiver and gain that feature on the 4520CI. Note however, there are DLNA apps you can use to stream audio to the 4520CI as well.

Interesting.

I called my local BB yesterday and the associate said the sale was good until 9/27 and that they could order one for me if I came in. I will have to check with them again.

Ordered the 4520 last night and plan to post my Onkyo-818 on Ebay. Although, I can't really say that I have made up my mind on if this is much of an upgrade. The sub EQ is one advantage, which I previously compensated for via the "sub crawl" and using an SPL meter. I have always been fond of Denon receivers, but the price point has always been out of reach for me. Honestly, I do not really see me going any further than the 5.2 setup I have now with Polk Monitor 75T Monitor towers,Polk CS2, Polk 45b and (2) Dayton-1200 subs. I MAY go to 7.1 at some point, but highly doubtful. Also, do you see 4k and hdcp 2.2 completely forcing people to ditch this older receivers within the next two years? I know 4k is in the early stages with regards to content. Help me make up my mind if this will be a worth upgrade!

Thanks!

At that price though they could still get an extended warranty from BestBuy or Amazon and still come out ahead.

I still need to pick up a five year warranty on my refurb 4520. I'm supposed to have up to 90 days to purchase it from the authorized Denon refurb seller. The lower refurb price would have come in handy though since the extended warranty is around $150. But either way I have been enjoying my 4520. I still can't believe how much better it sounds than my 3808 did. And hopefully my two Axiom speakers for Front Heights will show up soon so I can test them out.

I paid roughly $860 for the 4520 after my discover cash back and 10% discount. So they really did get in trouble for this pricing?

I scored 3 units at that price. 2 From Best Buy ($ 900 + 10% Points) and 1 From Amazon (1k). Glad prices returned to normal. Time to flip to my clients and make some money. Hopefully the prices will stabilize long enough to flip next week. Got shipping confirmation on all 3. I have one sold for $ 1500.00 + install labor. One is for my Brother. The other I reached out to clients today.
