on the Best Buy website type "open box" in the search bar

a link to the coupon should open up on the website

You should be able to take the receipt and return and rebuy...if you are within your return period

If you can get the coupon -- you should try it. They should be willing to apply it as long as you have the receipt.

Well, hard-resetting the AVR did not help. The right surround channel is dead. Just for grins(considering I will return this unit) I am trying to load my backed-up settings. The file is not all zeros, and like the first backup is 743984 bytes. I have the network standby set to "off" and the AVR just sits with the red LED on and "Loading" on the display for 20-30 minutes. Anyone encounter this?

Also, assuming a good backup, and assuming that I first update the replacement AVR to the latest FW if needed, are the saved config files applicable to a different unit? Of course I would re-calibrate via Audyssey but I have a lot of work into other config settings that I would prefer to be able to keep.

My 4520 only draws around 130 watts. Sometimes 140 watts. I'm running a 9.1 setup.

Yeah, i thought i had read that max draw can be something like 750 which sounds insane to me anyway...

That's the rating on the power supply (it's actually 780W), they don't specify what it means but I imagine it's the MAX continuous draw. It should be a fraction of that in normal use.

Soo.. worked 14 hours.. finally get home, unbox my unit. Hook up speakers/hdmi and power up. run for about 3 minutes while i was going through the setup menu, then shut off with a flashing red light. Turn it on.. now only stays in about 5 seconds then off. removed all speakers.. fm antenna. hdmi.. same thing.

Any known issues or a master reset or anything? if i have to take this back i will be sad

tried a hard reset... no love.. will call denon monday. another month without a receiver and a ton in shipping i'm betting.. don't really wanna goto BB to be told sorry no more left..

For the low price it cost I would get Denon to fix it. It was a sweet deal at those very low prices.

Spending only a little less for the lower end S900W, would be a huge letdown.

Plus the S900W only has Audyssey MultEQ. Which is two levels below the MultEQ XT32 the 4520 has.

My Denon 3808 had MultEQ XT, which was one level below MultEQ XT32. And there was a gigantic difference.

Flavors of MultEQ
Audyssey room correction technology comes in four solutions: MultEQ XT32, MultEQ XT, MultEQ and 2EQ. While they are all built on the same core science, each is designed to operate within the constraints of the available DSP processing power.

MultEQ XT32
Our newest and most accurate room correction solution with more than ten thousand individual control points allowing finer details of the room’s problems to be captured and corrected. The ultra high resolution filters are applied to all channels including the subwoofers, with the most obvious benefit being heard in the low frequency range where correction is needed the most.

MultEQ XT
Our advanced resolution room correction solution with high resolution equalization filters for satellites and subwoofers. Most products with MultEQ XT are installer-ready and can be calibrated by an Audyssey Registered Installer to provide even higher performance for even the most demanding large or odd-shaped rooms.

MultEQ
Our standard resolution room correction solution that uses mid-level resolution filters for satellites and subwoofers.

2EQ
Our basic resolution room correction solution that uses basic resolution filters for the satellites, but does not apply a filter to the subwoofers.

Features------------------------------MultEQ XT32-------------- MultEQ XT----------MultEQ--------2EQ
Filter resolution (satellites)---------512x-------------------------16x------------------2x-------------x
Filter resolution (subwoofer)--------512x------------------------128x----------------128x----------N/A
Number of Measurement Positions----8*-------------------------8*-------------------6--------------3
Adaptive Low Frequency Correction---Yes------------------------Yes-----------------Yes-----------N/A

This is making me nervous. My open box model is still in its open box, sitting in my HT. I was going to leave my existing avr hooked up so I could hopefully demo it for potential craigslist buyers, but now I'm thinking I shouldn't wait to find out if there is anything wrong with my 4520, given the problems some owners are reporting ...

Are there known reliability issues with this model?

Nope. But buying a demo/floor/open box reciever is akin to buying a former rental car with 30k miles on it, and expecting it to behave like a brand new car.

I would test it asap.. The box for mine was perfect no shipping damaged but still a junk unit.. , and yeah if you read through this thread there are a lot of reports of people having issues

I guess the thing I would be concerned about, assuming this wasn't just sitting on a shelf, unplugged, and was actually being run as part of demo setup or something, would be heat build up over time if they hadn't kept it well-ventilated ... But they told me it still comes with the full three year Denon warranty, so other than the hassle of having to ship it off for repair if it comes to that, I'm thinking I should be okay ... Besides there were no new models to purchase--this was the only one they had.

Yeah, I think you're right, that is what I will do. I vaguely remember reading about the wifi cards going out, but maybe that was some other model. Having a dead amp/channel would be a much bigger worry for me.

My journey involved 3 units. I initially bought the display for $837 (no remote or microphone) and returned it for audible hum. BB ordered me a new one for same price, got it home and set up and found that it would not keep Audyssey calibrations so I returned it for 3rd unit which (knocking on wood) has been performing well.

Hi,

I bought both Denon AVR4520 and Denon DBT3313UD recently. Both units work fine except the following problem:

When I first turn on the units (not from standby mode) and play the blu-ray disc, my 4520 could not output the HD audio (such as DTS MA HD or Dolby True HD) unless I switch off / on the receiver again or change the input mode to other and back to blu-ray mode. No such problem when I use use my 4520 with Panasonic blu-ray player. It seems that there are some interfaces issue between 4520 and the DBT3313

Any advice please? Thanks in advance.
