That's the one and yes its for a new unit. Has me on the fence. I picked up a demo unit, but buying new for the warranty is tempting.

Of course if the unit dies it's also an excuse to find something better.

Yes, that's the e-mail.

Here's the link for the $889 deal. I just bought one at $999 on the 5th. I'm mildly tempted to buy another one for my library at $889 since I like the first one so much.

Funny I had one in my Cart for the last few weeks and every so often I look at and tend to go back to the original page it had the same 999 price.

That is until I used the link it appeared 889.99 which is very cool.

Well, this deal was too good to pass up for my extra room. I hope it can do music pretty well since that will be about half of its use. Thanks to the op for the heads up.

Don't know the 1712, but I found the interface on the 4520 much easier to just "figure out" than my pioneer elite, I barely consulted the manual at all, but I did read the audyssey faq.

Besides if the manual fails you and you have questions, they don't necessarily have to be issues. Just ask here

Internet Radio

Hi,
New to the forum.
Have a Denon 4520 and have just started using the internet radio for another zone in my house.
It's been awhile since I used it and have noticed that 5 of the 7 options are not available on the menu as in the instruction manual.
Can't even search for a station anymore?
Has anyone else seen or had this issue?
Firmware is up to date.
Cheers

I have had the 4520 since July 2014; previous was denon 5803. Great upgrade. I used the audessey calibration and took a while to get it accepting room and speakers. Finally got it to work and things sounded good but not great. I did manual calibration and things sounded great. I did audessey again and left it there until this weekend; because audessey was suppose to be so good. I have Magnepan IIIa for my fronts, III for my surrounds, CC1 for center. This weekend I found out that Magnepans do not do audessey. I did the manual calibration and things sound great.

I set my speakers to 80 in the cross over; is this correct? Also under the audio set up, do I use the audessey processing or turn it off? I have it turned off now. Are there other audio settings I should use. Thanks

What do you mean by "Magnepans do not do Audyssey"? Do you have a link to where you found that information?

"Magnepan warns on their site that automatic room correction isn't designed for dipoles and doesn't work well." I found this quote at: http://www.audioasylum.com/cgi/vt.mpl?f=mug&m=183260
but I had not seen it before yesterday. Prior to yesterday, I did not know this. The audessey had me verifying polarity, and saying not enough volume.
I did not find the information on the Magnepan site.

So, should I use the audessey setting under audio if I have done manual speaker set up? Is 80 ok for cross over?
Did you sell your 4520?
Thanks

Audyssey just listens to the sound produced by the speakers, in the room. It has no idea what is making the sound. It could be Maggies, Genelecs or anything in between. It listens to the in-room response and it creates filters which attempt to remove the malign influences of the room from the sound you hear, so that you, in effect, hear more of your speakers and less of the room.

Audyssey often does get confused by dipoles, but only in the sense that it can report a polarity error. As you know that your speakers are wired correctly, then you can just ignore the polarity error and continue with the calibration. This is OT for this thread, but you will receive good advice in the Official Audyssey Thread if you need to discuss it some more.

If I were you, I would run Audyssey and then see if you like what it has done. It only takes half an hour and if you dislike the result, you can simply turn Audyssey off in the AVR menu.

It was doing that polarity thing with different speakers; I thought something was wrong with my center channel, mgcc; works fine with manual. It would not let me proceed; it kept saying too much ambient noise or not loud enough. I had turned everything off in the room. If I changed the center channel to a regular speaker, I could use audessey. I think I can ignore polarity but not the "too much ambient noise" thing. Thanks

I just tried audessey again; will not do center speaker. "Amient noise is too high or level too low". Everything off in room including heating. There is no place to "ignore" this.

Did a quick Google, and according to this thread it could be the fuse in the CC.

Speaker fuse was checked, all is good. with manual set up, center sounds exceptional like all the other speakers. I am happy with the manual set up; since I cannot get audessey to work. I did all the mic set ups, etc like audessey says in manual and on the sites.
My other question was, since I can only do manual set up, does the audessey in the audio set up do anything if I turn it on? I am talking about the multEQ and the dynamic EQ.

Well, turning on Audyssey MultEQ turns on Audyssey, and AFAIK you can't turn on DynEQ without turning on Audyssey.

How have you been comparing the Audyssey calibration vs. manual? You would have to know how to turn Audyssey on/off and you seem not to know that, so......

I should've checked the forum before I made my purchase instead of after. I ordered it at $999 last night, then saw this. I called this morning, but the price had already been increased back to $1,599. I'm glad I was at least able to get one, granted, I could've gotten it cheaper. I just called to verify the order was processed. They confirmed they are now sold out of the item, and will no longer be carrying it.

I had the same problem in the X3100 I was taking for a spin last week. This was the first time I ever worked with audyssey, but I was getting the same message. It was dead quiet in my home so I knew it wasn't the ambient noise. I had the mic on a tripod. I kept raising it a little at a time, and eventually audyssey continued with it's calibration of the room. Hopefully, that will do the trick for you.

How far above ear height did you have to raise the mic?

Now that Sound and Vision has performed both Denon 4520CI and Pioneer SC-89 reviews interesting to compare the AVR's test bench results. Interesting enough the Class D didn't smoke the Denon output on output tests.

the height was a few inches higher than my first couple of placements especially on placements 7 - 8. I wasn't overly concerned with this, because I was planning on returning the receiver. I wanted to hear what audyssey would do considering I had mismatched speakers (Sierra 1 fronts n HSU center n surrounds.)
I couldn't get the center to match on my own with my pio 1120 or elite 81. Audyssey did a nice job taking all the boominess out of my sub n center. Once I get my Sierra 1 center back from Ascend, I'm sure things will really start to sing!

I took back the X3100 to best buy n ordered the 4520 last night. Currently, my 1120 is holding down the fort til the 4520 arrives at the end of the week. To be fair, I ran MCAAC to see if it could help match the HSU center to the rest of the system. It did a great job in that regard.

Pioneer is making great AVRs. I wish they'd update their interface. Bummer they ditched THX this year too. I find THX loudness to be almost as good as Audyssey DEQ. Unfortunately without either one, it'd be off my list. I guess not everyone likes or needs that type of feature though. Most importantly, they sound great.

Question about surrounds

I had a question about adding a center channel to my current 5.1 system. In the next day or two, I will be receiving my Sierra 1 Center channel from Ascend Acoustics. This will complete my front stage with Sierra 1's LCR. My rear surrounds are currently two HSU Hb-Mk2 book shelf speakers. Originally, I had the Sierra CBM-170's, but sold to a buddy who was impressed with their sound. My sub is a HSU VTF-2 MK3. Now, I have HSU MK2 center channel left over from a bedroom setup that I'm abandoning for the time being.

Is there a way I could utilize the HSU center as some sorta rear surround? What amp channel would I use once I get my 4520 at the end of the week?

Thanks,
