I maybe found a cause for losing my wifi or wired connection, either DHCP or fixed IP. I have some trouble lately with short drop-outs on my internet connection running through my cable box. Most devices just reconnect after such a drop-out, mostly lasting a minute or something. Maybe it is just that the Denon is not able to reconnect automatically and needs a full power off to reconnect. The cable company is coming friday to switch the modem/router. I will know for sure if the drop-outs disappear after that and the 4520 keeps working.

The movement of effects and panning better, but again, this could be the 'new is good' effect.

Totally agree ^^^^ I am so impressed with the sound processing of this baby. I use it as a pre pro and having owned previous Denon's 3808a and 4308a plus Yamaha rx a 3010 this is the sound I have been searching for.

Probably going to bite the bullet to replace my Onkyo TX-905 with this but had a quick question.

If I have one of the zones connected to outdoor speakers does that mean it can only play music from a source using analog cables? That's the case with my Onkyo, it won't play music outside because my Dune HD Max is connected to it through HDMI

Receiver: Denon AVR-4520CI

that's the way it works for essentially every receiver on the market -- only analog audio can go to another zone (although for newer network models this does include internally tuned network streams like AirPlay, Internet Radio, etc).

Hi There.

I am considering adding either the 4520 or 3313 to my system.

I would be using external power amps if I went for the 3313.

Is the processing / sound quality better in the 4520 than the 3313 or are the differences mainly the extra zones / ethernet / power amps etc ?

Thanks Tom

The 4520 should sound better because it has a higher level of Aydyssey: MultEQ XT32. The 3313 has MultEQ XT.

Of course the problem is Denon's own less expensive, older models (see the 4311 and most other CI models over the last half-decade) do not have this limitation...and it's a good thing too, as more and more devices are (rightfully) dropping analog outs. The appletv will undoubtedly be a huge one for many (no analog outs)...the idea that a $2,000 multi-zone AVR cannot direct digital inputs to other zones is absurd- I don't care whose name is on the chassis.

You shouldn't have to incorporate a goofy workaround to listen to apple tv on your deck/2nd room with an AVR of this caliber in 2012. And the idea that some think it's perfectly fine to continue omitting "legacy" inputs on these AVR's but then don't think it a big deal to not institute a methodology to properly navigate the inputs that remain is beyond hypocrisy. My thought is the next model year will either see a return of this functionality (2 channel SPDIF to zones) or all-out access to any HDMI in any Zone. Again, in the top-tier models.

James

+1!! I never expected to get the deal I got on the 4520, and the number of authorized dealers offering steep discounts, in my experience, was overwhelming.

Mastermaybe, re your observation in #1365 that "You shouldn't have to incorporate a goofy workaround to listen to apple tv on your deck/2nd room with an AVR of this caliber in 2012," is there a specific "goofy workaround" that you have in mind that will accomplish this? Sorry if this has been addressed already, but I'm not as well informed as many on this forum. I'm seriously considering the 4520, and though I don't have immediate plans for a second zone (or more!) this would be a factor to be considered in principle.

Yea - as I read about you guys with "newer" AVR doing multiple calibrations I thought "wow - time consuming".
Now, I can also do multiple calibrations for best response.

In my old 4308CI I could show graphs, seems like Denon dropped those from this 4520, or are they burried somewhere?
