I replaced my Onkyo TX-SR606 with a lightly-used Marantz SR5005. It has options for video upscaling. I record 99% HD content (720p and 1080i) on a TiVo HD; the Marantz can upscale "automatically" or I can set it to a static 1080p. They don't say whose upscaler it is (Faroudja, etc). The 6005 is an Anchor Bay 2015.

Alternatively, I can use the TiVo's upscaler to convert all content to 1080i.

Or I can just run 100% native resolution, but that's annoying because my Sammy DLP is rather slow and clumsy to switch between HD resolutions.

Thoughts?

The 5005 uses the ABT 1030. Use whichever configuration looks best to your eyes.

Truthfully I can't tell much of a difference, but I've only had it hooked up for a little while.

Is there a good method or type of content to test?

In most cases, there is no difference, (most especially in your case as you're primarily passing HD video) which is why folks just bypass the AVR and let the TV or the source do the upscaling.

I figured as much. I can't even remember the last time I watched SD content. Thanks for the info.

Scaling isn't the only consideration, also important is de-interlacing and other picture controls.

If you have 720p content you should avoid 1080i output and unnecessary p-i-p steps.

Audiosceptics accept audio trials using 25 people. A recent Oxford study with over 353,000 patient records from 639 separate clinical trials shows for every 1,000 people taking diclofenac or ibuprofen there would be 3 additional heart attacks, 4 more cases of heart failure and 1 death every year.
