I agree the HDMI sounds really good. A lot of the guys on here use the analog outs on Oppo players. If that's what you want I wouldn't give up, I hear they sound great! It has to be an input assign on the Marantz or a setting on the Oppo.

Everything appears to be "on" so it beats me. Whatever, the HDMI sounds fine.

As long as your happy smile.gif I'm with you it sounds awesome to me. SACD"s sound so good through the 8801 as does DTS MA on blu ray. Skyfall sounded so real.

Thanks everyone on input for amps. Truth is marantz has deal on that pre/pro thru my dealer $1000 off or did so, they said hey would give me similar deal. Get pre/pro for $5000 and $300 in store credit towards kimber cables. Better then $5700 plus tax. Also buying furman elite 20amp is why the price is getting up there. I have read a lot of good things about parasound and my dealer recommends them. As for money i had to buy wife new car to make purchase. I just don't think I will be happy buying just that amp. I can get new parasound classic for 1300 and thought about emotive 5 channel for rest. Or parasound 5 ch classic. Really like the balanced xlr on the halos, but truth is the 8801 is not full balanced unit xlr's center pin floats. No benifits going short runs except locking in. The av8801 is my choice for pre, more input from guys on what amp there running there paradigm monitors if any.

Why didn't D&M give the 8801 this:

* The INFO button on the remote now calls up a rich display of information including input/output speaker channels:

I would even pay a nominal upgrade fee for that........

Or if I should go different way, was also thinking stay with the 8077 and purchase a parasound halo 21 for fronts when I do 2 channel. And left over channels from marantz for zone 2. What you guys running? Year ago purchased paradigm monitor 9 and matching c,s,r. For the $3,000 I spents on speakers. My onkyo 608 sucks and want your guys input before I make 7 g mistake. thanks

Solid plan if you have a love for 2/ch and as much as one may think balanced connections on gear that's not fully balanced may not have audible benefit. I've found this is not always the case eek.gif If you do go the route with the 8801/ A21 ( you'll always wonder what if if you don't wink.gif) the balanced route has benefits in instrument separation, better decay and tighter articulate bass and also improved imaging IMHO the Furman and Kimber 's will be nice additions indeed regardless to what the naysayers may say tongue.gif for my other channels in my 5.1 setup I use an Anthem MCA 30 but if I had the choice it would be A21/A51 for 7.1. The halo's are just sweet sounding refined and gut wrenching amps when called for.

In short my plan was to get a modern pre/pro to replace my Anthem AVM 20v2 and possibly a preamp with HT bypass, as I have an undying love for 2/ch but wanted to further improve multi/ch with RC (Audyssey) well I feel more than confident in saying the combination of the 8801/ A21 and the venerable Oppo 105 is indeed the set up to beat for who knows how much money $, you get a current SOTA setup for the best of all worlds , don't second guess yourself on this one, your thinking is about to take you to Audio nirvana cool.gif

That and how about info button displays the volume when in pure direct mode in the little window.
I had to program a volume up / volume down sequence.

Thanks audiofan1 for input so your saying the balanced will still give me a better sound more db. Im just getting into this higher end hi fi love music , and want awesome theater too. So all input is greatly appreciated Further plan is run the oppo 105 and pick up some new subs. If I could prove to my wife on how it sounds she would be sold hence how I got the paradigms.biggrin.gif on the extra cost of the amps. I am coming from onkyo 608 and old speakers klipsch and jbl. Anything is going to be improvment over that and I feel I am making good solid jump in quality. I know I want the halos. Or I wouldn't even be posting this. Who am I trying to fool. Cause who wouldnt.

Cool , but keep in mind the benefits of XLR I mentioned are even after they were level matched against the rca connections to account for the extra db! And on the wife , even after a massive upgrade 7 months ago she told me to get a second sub eek.gif but me trying to be the nice guy, as she allowed me to get all the little extra's I wanted said "ones good for now" eek.gif She is more than impressed and for the first time in as many years is in the listening/ ht room/living room as much as I am and has become quite the judge of good soundtracks and music, as the 8801 can deliver a movie experience that can surpass IMAX even with a 5.1 setup wink.gif Man on Man does it ever pans and drops special effects an inch from you at times in a true 360 fashion . She's gonna love it wink.gif

Haven't been around in a while so forgive me. I turned my 8801 just now and it's telling there is a new firmware update? Does anyone know what is in the update? Does the 8801 have a save function for audyssey?

Check post #1 for the firmware change log. Also you can use the Web Control feature (p. 106 OM) to SAVE the config.dat file (including Audyssey EQ) to a PC.

In post #1 of this thread there is a list of the three updates. There is a way to save different Audyssey sweeps from your PC somehow but not from within the 8801. Maybe someone will comment on this and point you to the correct post.

Edit jd is the guy that knows smile.gif

Just watched my first film last night and noticed a lip sync problem. At times it will catch up then go off sync. Ive got the oppo going through the Marantz and out to the projector. The auto lip sync on the marantz is on. Is this a fault with the unit ?

Have a quick look I've noticed I'm not the only one, I'm curious if there has been a fix for this?

Thanks

Thanks I can't wait and am looking for that jaw dropping ht. It's hard to pass up the offered sale price on the pre/pro and be able to run all 7 channels. Use the grand I save to buy the oppo 105 now. Then ill just buy the halo 2 channel in a mnth and have 9 channels powered using the left over channels too power zone two on my deck. Then give couple months and buy the a51. I can turn around and get my money out of the 8077 cause sale . The wires I am buying are the kimber heros interconnect or the xlr's. Speakers fronts and center the 8 or 4vs Need more info on how to balance against RCA. Thanks forgive me of my stupidity. Like I said I am newbie!

Unless the issue presents with all source audio, it may just be an issue with that specific source.

I know most guys run one HDMI to their panel and one to the 8801. I run one HDMI to the 8801 for both audio/video it looks great and never a lip sync problem.

I'm doing the same just one. Could it be hdmi cable that could cause this?

Hi, Frank,

Very very odd that you're having a lip sync issue. It's interesting, I got the 8801 to correct a lip sync issue that I was having with my Denon AVP (which it has, and is working amazingly well btw), and now you own an 8801 and you're having a lip sync issue. Like most here, I am running a single HDMI from the 8801 to the display. No lip sync issues at all (2D and 3D).

Try swapping the HDMI cable, and see if that corrects the problem. I hope you're able to get this sorted out.

updated to the latest firmware just now. Everything went fine. I noticed that all my settings were still intact after the update. I figured it would wipe them out.

Glad your update went well. Nope you won't lose one setting, it'll even play the same radio or Internet radio station you were listening to before the update biggrin.gif

Ive noticed lip sync issues with my directv before, but never on my BD player.

(European models do not accept banana plugs.)

Frank,

Make sure your Oppo has up-to-date firmware.

Many people reported problems with lip sync in the Oppo 103. See the 103's thread. Supposedly they were fixed with a firmware update released in December.
