If the case is so (XLR), would it be better then?(connect xlr from oppo to Marantz av8801)?But then again,my power amps (Rotel RB-1572 and Rotel RMB-1575) ain't supporting XLR only RCA.
Thanks for taking your time guys to read my question.Hopefully someone can guide me to this sollution.
Hi and welcome to the 8801 club
I have my 8801 and Oppo 105 setup for both the 2 channel purist in me and the movie lover as well and have set it accordingly so below is how I have it configured. For 2 channel/ multi ch, I have the 105 set up in its setup menu
1.) HDMI set to A/V split ( use HDMI to the display and HDMI 2 to the 8801's bluray input) and HDMI audio set to bitstream
2.) Set it to DSD for SACD ( I use stereo as the main default)
3.) You will need to set the distance setting in the 105 for the FR/FL channels in the speaker setup menu, leaving the others at their default settings. On the 8801 side
1.) For the rca or Xlr outs of the 105 ( I use Morrow Audio MA4 XLR's
) connect them to the CD input on the 8801 (best sound) and if XLR you need to go into the 8801's Input menu and assign the XLR's to the CD input and rename as you wish ( I renamed it Oppo XLR) when listening use the Pure Direct mode which is on the remote. This the 2 ch purist playback option that will impress while using the 8801 as a preamp. For the Multi ch be it Movies, Music or even if you want to know how good the 8801 sounds on its own ( which it does)
1.) here you need to first go to the Audyssey thread and read 101 if you haven't and purchase a boom mic stand ( extremely important for the best possible calibration)
2.) Once the above is done ! the reward is multi/ch playback that is unreal for multi ch/ SACD and movies or Prologic II for music( which is already set up in the 105 for the best possible sound )
And lastly do try different cables after you gauge the sound and burn in, as both the 8801 and the 105 benefit from the upgrade ( naysayers post here
) you know have what i consider the best of both worlds and just may be the current SOTA in playback of all source material and setup the way noted above, its all at the touch of a button
