I'd day not yet but if you are talking the primary improvement, look no further than a Denon 3311 vs a 4311. Same basic uptick and I will restate what has been said a million times. XT good
XT32 very much better. I too want ac reason to upgrade but really, when it's all said and done you want the 8801 if you desire XT32 and 11.2 plus in a blingy Pre format as opposed to amuch more comman man AVR.

It's a bit early to say as they're just now starting to ship.

Some are speculating that there is only a difference in features while others argue that basic sound quality will improve with the difference in electronics.

Until more are installed it's mostly speculation.

Samsung 64F8500, Panasonic 65VT50, Oppo 95, Tivo Roamio for OTA, Dish VIP722, Marantz AV8801 preamp, Rotel Amps, Atlantic Tech 8200 speakers, Seaton Submersive HP, Calman 5, Chromapure, Accupel DVG-5000, i1Display3pro, i1pro2, eecolor colorbox.

I've listened on a show in Paris that components are not the same
that they use also Curver inside the 8801???

11.2 is not my objective, find the best sounding processor is my search to replace my Meridian before Audionet and now EAD Signature 8 upgraded by Greg Noble. This one sounds as good in stereo as in multichannel, but with no HD preset, no video treatments (less important beacuase I use a DVDO processor).
So it's time for me to change.

The best of the new generation processors that I've listened is the SSP800 in my mind.

I'm not sure that an intenral acoustic treatment such as Audissey is a priority /necessity for me.
The day where I will search that, I will try to buy a Trinnov MC (for me the top of the top in this field).
A important budget. Yes.
Most of time internal parametric system doesn't work so well as expected (just my opinion).

thank your for your advices

Well then, I would wait on reviews, tests, and your own personal review experience. IMHO I don't expect much diiference between say the 4311 or 4520 to the new 8801. I see it as basically the same technology and signal path in a Pre amp package. Of couse, I haven't even heard it yet and await other capable people to discuss. I am just more in the "it's the XT32 stupid camp". Put another way, although Audyssey via the Pro kit is quite tweakable, you are either a room correction EQ fan or a path purist. The 8801 humbly said will not blow away any other exotic device if not for the utilization of its EQ capabilities. I do not believe that a 32 bit DAc is three times suckier than some futuristic 128 bit DAC....

Even if this piece isn't any better sounding then the Integra pieces I'd rather own it as I've had problems with Integra/Onkyo gear before and always wanted a Matantz or Denon prepro that didn't break the bank and of course has XT32. That leaves the Marantz. smile.gif

I hope sound stage comparisons are not going to be made with stacked receivers, particularly on an amp. In addition that Parasound is going to bake the Denon.

The AV8801 manual actually recommends 12" all around it for ventilation. Seems a bit much if true.

Really? biggrin.gif
I was just doing this for effect. But you are wrong about the Parasound. It has an Antec Component Cooler on top not to mention an eight mini fan block on its back end. Been like that for a year now with numerous Receivers on top and never once and a single issue. And that is after many long football marathons and movie nights. I also have Antec Component Coolers on top whichever Receiver/pre-pro is running. smile.gif

The entire backside of my rack is open to the back room of my basement. It is plenty cold back there so each component is well ventilated. Of course having those Antec Component Coolers help as well. I consider this belt and suspenders for ventilation protection.

So it has really started shipping already? A couple of folks got it but didn't sound like the "general public" has gotten any yet... Would be nice if it's available in the next few days... Lots of folks probably have end of the year vacation days they'll be taking!

In many cases stacking preamps and processors closely with other components can impact sound quality quite a bit, particularly in the case of the sound stage and noise. I have have seen this in my rack before when experimenting with my Parasound JC2 Preamp, and other components.

Just trying to be constructive.  The Zektor MAS7.1 does audio (RCA) and HDMI but for XLR switching I know only of 2channel solutions.

There's this

But it might be overkill just to review a 3.5k AV pre/pro smile.gif

Great.  I forgot about that and, now that I think of it, there are some others with mulitple 5.1 XLR inputs.

Yeah.. I was looking around for a multichannel XLR solution a while back. Here's another:

http://www.electrocompaniet.no/products/classic/preamp/ec49.html

This isn't so much a switch like the EMM Labs but a proper multichannel XLR analog only preamp

It has been 13 hours and 40 minutes since joerod posted his pictures of the 4520 and 8801. Where the heck is the review???? wink.gif

Patience is a virtue I just don't possess!

I am so looking forward to reading this and truly appreciate the effort it takes.

I spoke to my dealer yesterday. He expects delivery sometime shortly after 12/27 on the AV-8801. The MM-8807 will not arrive until late February He will 'lend' me an MM-7055 until my amp arrives. So I guess I will be able to judge SQ differences (if any) between the two amps.

The first big batch has shipped. I was told to expect to pick mine up next week Tuesday. Looks like my Dealer has quite a few.. lost the special feeling.. biggrin.gif
Just wondering are your dealers taking your old pro/receiver in trade on a new pro/receiver too? Not a lot of dealers in Minneapolis do that anymore. At least I have a chance to compare the 7005 with the new 8801, before handing it over.

Life is enjoyable with good quality

I too ordered one and my last pre/pro was a MC12B. I am trying the AV7701 with XLR connections, but I am getting noise out of all my speakers that is audible from 12 feet away. I sure do hope the 8801 will work better with my system. The MC12B was dead quiet because of the fully balanced XLR circuit I am sure.
