You had to buy new speakers when going from 2 channel to 5.1, to 7.1 and to 11.1 on the 8801. What's another 2 more speakers?

Plus if you've already got height speakers, you aren't particularly averse to mounting stuff in the ceiling, so what's another 2 more.

And if you really didn't want to wire up 2 more speakers in the ceiling, Onkyo makes upward firing speakers (licenced from another company) vs the Pioneer ones which has the upward firing drivers mounted on top of their existing 7.1 speakers.

I got my 8801 and installed it but not quite done yet.
I am looking for Dolby PLII music, Neo movie, Neo Music formats.
I cannot find them on the remote neither in the setup menu.
Can anybody help me to find those.
There are only 4 formats on the remote: Dolby PLII Movie, Stereo, Game and Direct.

Also how can I change subwoofer level on the fly?

You need to press/hold the MOVIE or MUSIC buttons to select the available surround modes. You can change the subwoofer level by selecting - Setup - Audio - Subwoofer Level.

help....

Can anyone help me and point me to a link where I can download the latest firmware, or even the prior version. Got a recent update notice, hit the confirm button and I've been in the endless "connection failed" update loop. I've gone in to the IP address and accessed the web interface, which is only giving me the option to upload firmware (vs save settings or other options).
Thanks!

You should look at the manual: http://us.marantz.com/us/Support/Pages/Manuals.aspx

I suspect you may have a internet issue. I would trouble shoot that first and if that is not the issue than try a hard reset.

Really enjoyed the show and your contributions to it this past weekend. You and
Scott make a great team. Do you live in the Bay Area or did you have to travel there like Scott? There were some great questions and discussions.

No longer available outside of an authorized repair center. Give the following a try ...

"Connection failed. Check the device": This error occurs with the networking models when the AVR is unable to connect to the home internet router/modem. Place the AVR in Standby and unplug for a few minutes. Reset the router or connect directly to the router if connecting wirelessly. You also may want to consider replacing the router if it is more than several years old with one that is capable of handling higher bandwidth. If you are using an Apple device, make sure that "Home Sharing" is turned ON (as it may have been turned OFF by updating the firmware/iOS). If you use a NETGEAR router, try disabling the UPnP mode. If the SSID of your router contains a "space", rename the router without the space.

Thanks for the help, still trying to fix. I brought up the cable modem and tried connecting directly to the receiver but still no good. I then put back cable modem in it's place in the basement. There is an Apple Extreme base, and the receiver connects with a couple network bridges in between. It's worked in the past, so something seems to be different now. It's after hard rebooting (cutting power vs standby), and re-initiating the connection loop, it's connected a couple of times and partially completed the downloads (main downloaded, dsp 1, is on "sub" now), but haven't had any luck connecting in hours after probably 40-50 attempts. resetted all routers and couple bridges in the system and rebooted the AV a bunch of times. Fingers crossed I can get it to finish. Just trying to avoid the full setup again with a factory reset...

Hmmm, need a little help.

I turned my 8801 off after watching some TV and then decided to listen to some tunes a short while later.

It won't turn on manually or with the factory remote. Tried remotely turning it on via iTunes airplay but no joy there either.

I unplugged it for 10-15 seconds and tried again. No joy.

I'm unplugging it again and will plug it back in upon seeing a reply with ideas. I hope it didn't brick itself...

Oh yeah, tried downloading the manual but on my macbook pro I couldn't get the pdf to unzip for whatever reason...<sigh>

Thanks!

so you are stuck with both displays, all zones, no lights other than the red standby light?

How can I make the ARC work by pressing the ARC button on the remote but don't want my TV to turn on the 8801 every time I watch TV?
So basically I want to turn on my 8801 manually not by TV.

I did turn on HDMI control and made the ARC work but now every time I turn on my TV, my 8801 goes on too.

This is what HDMI Control is designed to do. So then the work around would be to turn it OFF, not use ARC, but instead connect an optical cable from the TV to the 8801.

Try unplugging the power to all devices for at least 10 minutes.

I recently got my new AV8801 setup in my theater. I have run Audyssey a number of times as I play around with the processor. When I check the results after the calibration is complete I can look at the EQ settings Audyssey has setup. It shows me the EQs for each front speaker, center, and rears (running 5.1), but I dont see one for my subwoofer channel. Is this normal? Does it have EQ for the Sub?

Yes, this is normal. Denon/Marantz products don't show the adjustments for the sub(s). But, yes, XT32 is adjusting the subs.

Ok, I failed at the search function...and I didn't save the link in an earlier post...

I'm trying to figure out how to save my Audyssey runs so I can compare two. I know you can link up online with the 8801 somehow but I can't figure it out and my search here and of my paper copy of the manual have resulted in no joy.

I'd appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.

What I'm trying to do is to see what effect the sound treatments I've installed are having when I rerun audyssey. Maybe that's not possible, but I'd like to see if I can.

Thanks!

Does Marantz work the same way as Denon? if so....

Results displayed on the TV? Hmmmm...not sure I've ever seen them or the "results" are less informative than I'm hoping for.
