Do what I do - buy a bottle of Krug champagne and make sure swmbo is at least 3 glasses in before you bring up the 8801.

I had trouble with this as well. I taught my harmony one the sat/cable input off the 8801 remote and it worked.

Does anyone have the discete Power ON hex code for only the Main Zone. The one I currently have that I got from Marantz triggers on all 4 zones at once, not just the Main one. Thanks!

Many thanks to all those comparing the 8801 to other processors. I'd sure like to see some comparisons between the 80.2/80.3 if anyone has made that leap. And what's up with some of you guys in regards to the whole wife acceptance factor? The first time my lady came over she looked at the 2 seven foot tall racks and all the speakers and asked "why do you need all this?" I told her I don't need it. Then I asked her why she has more than ten pairs of black shoes. She laughed about that but was amazed the first time she saw a movie here. Besides, there are only 8 amplifiers for 11 channels. She has more purses than that... And we're both grateful. Merry Christmas to all!

It's a different story if you have the system before the wife! She would argue her shoes/purses are much cheaper if she knew how much the 8801 cost... she did say, "Hey we should get that new 70" TV for each other for Christmas!" so it's not all bad! Merry Christmas!

Thanks for posting.
The last time I trained a code was long enough ago that it didn't come to mind until you posted.

I wound up with all zones turned on and suspect I'll have to do the same for the power on/off code.

smile.gif Would this be a big upgrade from my Onkyo sr805? contemplating an upgrade. I already have an outlaw amp. Building a new home soon with a dedicated theater. Thought I could start the purchases for my current home until it is done.

Doesn't look like the remote code is what's causing all the zones to be turned on.

I must have changed something else. Anyone knows where the setting is that sets the other zones to come on when the main power on the remote is turned on?

Very nice Christmas morning (family and av-wise)... The 8801 and 8807 amp are connected - did a quick distance and levels, and downloading a firmware update...

I have two triggers connected, one to my mcintosh amp and one the the marantz - the Mac is turning on and off as expected, but the marantz is not (using a stereo mini cable for both) I am busy with Christmas Day, so I am being lazy and asking if anyone know I'd the marantz amp needs a mono cable or there is somewhere setting....

Also, anyone know what is the RCA input for the audyssey pro mic? Again, apologize for not searching, wife is yelling!

Merry Christmas....

Hi. Just to clarify. Are you connecting the 8801 and the 8807 with the remote control in/out or adc trigger? I have not purchased these units (yet) but i was hoping to use the rc in/out so I could save the dc triggers for other (non-marantz) devices. In the manual that connector looks like an RCA connector. True? Or did I misunderstand your question?

Here is my progress so far. If the unit is off. You simply select the input you want and it turns on the AVP onto that input. Trying to make that happen on my activities instead of discreet power on.

Test going from one source to another to see if it turns it off when switching.

Enjoying my 8801 very much thus far. Quick comment though... Why is there no simple way to switch audio input via the remote? I've got the Oppo 105 hooked up via HDMI to the Blu-ray input, but also have 5.1 analog connected to take advantage of the DACs in the 105 when playing an audio disc. But to switch between HDMI audio and Analog, I have to go through the Setup menu! My Denon 4308ci had an input button the remote to toggle between the inputs. Kind of a pain!

Does not turn the unit off when switching inputs using the original remote, or Harmony 900, after turning it on via input.

I found an IR code if you have a universal remote like the Harmony that does just what you need. Its called Input Mode.

Denon dropped the INPUT MODE button on the remotes starting with the XX11 models and I'm not sure that Marantz remotes ever had it. On the 4520CI you could use either the macro buttons or Quick Select buttons to make the Input Mode change via the GUI menu much quicker, although neither of these features is offered on the 8801. You should however be able to program a Harmony or other universal remote with a one button macro feature to access the INPUT MODE.

You should however be able to program a Harmony or other universal remote with a one button macro feature to access the INPUT MODE.
The device with the IR code "Input Mode", as I stated, is either the AV7005 or SR7005. I can't recall which, but I tested it, and it cycles the input mode; Auto, HDMI, Analog, Ext.In

To AV8801 owners......what is the software upgrade that keeps popping up in a few posts.....what does it address / fix? How long did it take? Was it relatively simple....ie connect to internet and its all automatic...Is it a mandatory upgrade?

Thanks
